and the spare fob doesn't work whilst the key doesn't open the door as it is deadlocked.

I have a specialist tomorrow coming to see the car, but he has mentioned that if he can't access the door he might resort to a drill behind the number plate in order to access gubbins in the boot to reset or open the locks. He has done it before on other marques but not on an L322. Sorry for the lack of technical fluency here.


Long story short, can anyone pont me towards the schematic for the boot on a 2006 L322? --------

How did you lock the keys in the boot, it doesn't lock unless you lock it after shutting it...???

AFAIK there is nothing of help in the bottom tailgate, it's the top tailgate that has the lock mechanism.. Pete

It would if you used the 'LR' button to open it then left the keys in the boot...
Agreed, there's nothing to do in the lower tailgate that will help.
It may be time to 'pick a window' - just check with Autoglass which window they can get the quickest & cheapest first....

On the offchance that the keys are visible, it may be possible to steer a couple of TIG welding rods through the tailgate seal to push the unlock button.

ETA - the key blade should open the superlocked door - sounds like the mechanism is a bit stiff due to lack of use, maybe a bit of movement side to side will help? Don't spray all kinds of stuff in the lock, if it turns, it doesn't need lube, it's the link rod to the door lock that does, which you can't get to....

I did indeed open the boot alone, was browsing my mobile like a distracted teenager, proceeded to chuck my bag in along with my keys and closed the tailgate.

The key turns in the lock, the AA man says that if the key wasn't cut correctly, it wouldn't turn the lock. The Land Rover garage near me say that the door cable may be snapped.

The AA man tried to access the inner door latch with a wire, but it failed to open the door, so he referred me to this specialist. --------

As above drilling the boot behind the number plate will achieve nothing but a hole.
There is however a way of opening the rear tailgate without causing damage using a bit of ingenuity.
For obvious reasons I’m not going to go into details here but if your specialist definitely can’t get into your car you may wish to pm me and l will try and assist you.
Out of curiosity where exactly are your keys lying?

Gary I'd like a recommendation thanks. I am not comfortable with just a single key but must admit complacency with addressing the failure of the second set. I was under the impression that it would cost me about £700 from LR but he told me today that it's about <£300. --------

The plastic lock mech will have simply fallen off the mechanical door lock... No good to you right now I know but for anyone reading this thread in the future... CHECK your key works in the door lock! Saves loads of grief long-term...

I know it happened to me! GRRRRR!!! Also, swap your keys over summer/winter... That way your dead key battery won't leak acid and damage your spare key!

Mine has a pre-heat remote so, I use that key & remote in the winter and the key without for summer use...

Not quite the same scenario but in my haste to get a hired van back in time to B&Q, I appear to have, ahem, mislaid my main key. Luckily my wife brought my spare but I’m now in the market for a new key and having read a few articles online, I’m somewhat confused as to my best plan of action to sort this out, so any advice would be gratefully accepted. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

2008 3.6 is easy to get a new key for. I know good places in Essex, who covers part of London and a great guy in Sussex, who covers Sussex, Hampshire and Kent.

Might not help you however to share my experience, getting a new key programmed and cut took about 25 minutes. I also opted to upgrade from the old fashioned Land Rover key to the Bentley key. I bought the key myself (about £15) and the guy I used only charged me £60 to cut and programme it - that's not to say he'd do that deal again, as I think normal price for a key supplied and programmed is about £180.
