Volvo XC90 - tempting?

LR main dealer has today given us a 12 month old Volvo XC90 INSCRPT PRO B6 MHEV via a car hire company as our L405 is in with them for some extended warranty work that’s taking longer than anticipated.

The Volvo is a nice, smart, muscular looking car and feels very well built, high tech and big/ spacious. Nice to drive too but do not like the fact you can’t hear or really feel the engine when driving/ setting off from stationary.

Should it tempt, away from the L405?

That's very odd - unless something has changed in the last couple of years the contract with the hire co's was for JLR only vehicles, competing brands were expressly prohibited.

For what it's worth, I never considered the XC90's comparable to Vogues, maybe Discovery 4's or 5's... They do feel very 'disconnected', not just the powertrain but also the controls - the main screen takes too much concentration to use, compared to buttons and dials.

My son has an XC90, absolutely amazing tech all round, utterly reliable, very efficient on fuel and a joy to drive with its very spacious cabin. BMW i3 Electric Car

It is a nice car and good to drive. Feels more a BMW 5 series type drive…

Have the use of a D5 Inscription - it’s generally quiet (road noise aside) and refined and comfortable, but entirely unrewarding to drive. Really just a taller estate car and not a Range Rover alternative for me.

Always liked the look of them but I don’t need something that big. I’m tempted by the XC60 as a move to something ‘sensible’ but will put that off for as long as possible 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

An XC90 is actually a little bit shorter/narrower/lower than an L322.

I don’t need the size of the L322 either Smile 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

There are quite a few alternatives out there, more this, more that & so on.

Whatever else you may choose ;

"But it's not a Range Rover".

& that, I think sums it up for many of us.

It’s a nice car and no more. Not a car that would take my preference over the L405. Would take one for free of course Laughing but wouldn’t buy one. Each to their own Thumbs Up
