This may be a really stupid question so forgive me for my ignorance if so.

Had a quick look on auto trader while I was bored and official JLR dealers are joining in at selling low mileage L460’s tens of thousands over list price with a few thousand miles on the clock.

If the dealers were getting customers to sign waivers saying they can’t flip the car once they receive it and were so against customers making some money then why are they joining in on the shenanigans of selling way over the list price of a brand new L460?

Have they done this before with other models and I’ve just been out of the loop?

I'm not sure about other previous models, but surely the main dealers should be practicing what they preach!

They've been doing it with the Defender for a while, both old and new. I remember Ford dealers doing the same with the Mustang when they first came out, albeit not to the same extent, so its nothing new and not limited to Land Rover dealers.

If people are daft or desperate enough to pay over market price, then bigger fool them.

So how do the dealers not sell at inflated prices? They can’t buy them in at below list and sell at list or less, everyone knows the value of their car and what’s going in the marketplace, it’s all about market forces. I don’t support their antics in other areas but you can’t fault a business trying to make a profit.

I do agree with you Andy - If the main dealer is buying a customer's car back into stock, they have at least got to pay pretty much what they sold it for, or the customer will go elsewhere with it.

Also, if they've then paid pretty much RRP, they're going to have to go higher in order to make a profit, after all, they're there to make money.

I think where the problem lies, is that these very same main dealers are the one's dictating and telling customers that they can't make a profit from their new car, when they are then going on to do just that!

It's not that we should expect main dealers to make a loss on a car, or sell at a price below current make values, but if they want to do that, you have to admit, it does seems a bit hypocritical of them to tell others not to do the same.
