Diagnostics. Launch X431 specifically

Hi all.
New to the P38 group as just bought one cheap. Yeh I know bad for the wallet possibly but it looked too good to pass up.
Anyway, has anyone got experience using the Launch X431 diagnostics unit to scan these models. I understand all of the diagnostics is done through the OBD port but my unit is saying about a specific cable for 99my cars. Mine is a dec98 build so 99my. I’m trying to scan the becm but it doesn’t like it.
Any help is greatly appreciated

Thanks

I am not sure about the system you are using, but in my experience the only thing that seems to communicate with the P38 flawlessly is the Nanocom system or the factory Testbook system. Good luck either way. 2003 VW Golf V6 4motion
