SmartKey not detected

Here's a puzzler. I returned last week from a blissfully faultless 1,600 mile round trip to Italy (oh, the joy of covering long distance vs. London crawling).

As I was switching off, a notice came on to say the battery was low in the SmartKey. Fair enough. I changed it, but now nothing on the remote works and I get SmartKey not detected. Humph. I tried a different battery, without success. My spare key doesn't work either (I changed the battery on that, too).

I am now using the actual key to lock and and then starting whilst holding the fob as directed.

Before booking and waiting for the pleasure of a no doubt expensive diagnostic (as everything requires these days), is there something I should be investigating or doing?

On my old Disco 4 I had an issue on replacing the battery that it wouldn't work with a cheaper Energizer battery, I had to buy a decent (more expensive) Duracell Lithium type one and it worked fine then. Just a thought. FFRR SDV8 Autobiography

And a good thought, too. I tested the ones I have, but you could well be right - especially if there is a more expensive solution!

I had the same problem with my Suzuki with Maxell batteries, it worked fine when I put a Duracell in. Chris

The 'smart key' doesn't rely on battery power, it's essentially NFC technology - similar to that in your contactless debit card.
The battery is only needed for the immobiliser transmit function. The battery warning could be in reference to the KVM module battery, not the key.

I presume you have placed your smart key in this location? I think once you have used your manual key you need to do this.

And the answer is: Duracell. Thanks to all - I should never have believed it, but the key clearly needs the full 3 volts to get it going!

Even then, I nearly gave up until I spotted a child-safe sticker on the back of the battery... Rolling Eyes

Thanks all Thumbs Up
