Looks very shabby to me AJ, nothing ATM within 18 miles or so.

I wonder what sort of reception I'd get on an EV forum preaching the merits of RR's ?

Maybe go back and read it again. 7.5p is what I pay to charge my EV. No solar, no batteries, no big investment. That gives me about 100 miles per day at less than 2p per mile. If I need more it's about 7p per mile but in my circumstances that's happened once in 18k miles.

As for 'promoting RR in EV forums', the question was asked in this forum. If you don't like the real world answers you get, from people who've run both, maybe just ignore the thread? If you don't want to hear the answers then fair enough. Nobody is trying to convert you. But theres nothing wrong with discussion and facts. 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

I’m not disputing the 7.5p but when I compared it to the (Std variable) tariff I’m on, the other 20 hours of the day were quite a bit more expensive. Fine if you’re powering the rest of your usage from solar (ignoring the cost of installing the panels), but when I did a rough calculation, I wouldn’t be better off on the EV tariff if I had a car to charge and I do more than 100 miles a day. Won’t be the same for everyone and there may be a difference between legacy contracts and the new one I looked at, but you can’t just use the 7.5p and ignore the rate you’re on the rest of the time.

Well you can and I guess it’s a form of man maths…which I use all the time, but at least let people know that’s what you’re doing!

It will be different for different circumstances of course but I don't pay an excessive rate outside of the 7.5p rate.

If you're fortunate to be on an advantageous rate at the moment then of course it makes little sense to switch.

But even on my current daytime rate, it costs about a sixth of the cost per mile of my FF and about a quarter of my VRS. 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

Is there a Range Rover specialist at the end of your drive?

You think that having a specialist within 18 miles is too far away, really?

I thought this very bizarre that there should be EV threads popping up (what's the bet they'll increase) on a default RR forum. And there do seem to be a handful of zealots pushing their 'iconic' products and 'quietly' attacking any suggestions that there might be problems and or hiccups as far as EVs go - which there are (problems) aplenty. I've seen similar responses from bot types on crazy social media platforms where it is obvious the responses from the zealots are all the same, like coming from the same music sheet, or echo chamber, and where peeps are intimidated to believe what they tell them or they are evil - no questions asked.
On another RR forum a few years ago now I had a number of similar types attacking me and other members for even owning so called gas guzzling V8s, as they thought they (V8s etc) were quite literally destroying the planet. And when asked why they were members of a RR LR forum in the first place considering their activist views, one replied: "To destroy from within!" quite openly...
It got like this concerning using tyres without big fancy names here on a thread awhile ago, and similar attacking rebuffs popped up with a touch of a slap to the face about very expensive tyres being the best, which isn't true. Links added sometimes showed a bias towards big manufacturers having supported/funded those links...
So I spot the bots fairly easily nowadays...
I still say, heh, good luck with your EVs though...
Just don't preach it...

We really do need a "tongue in cheek" smiley on here to assist those who cannot see such comments for what they are.

I have recently replaced my FFRR for a Sport (shock/horror) but I don't keep telling people on here about how good it is !
For the record there are things & prefer/don't like about both models.

I remain here to take part in discussions & to help/advise people that have L322's where I can based on my own experience of them.

Again, FWIW I am of the opinion that there are places for EV's as well as for fossil fuels & what happens if they have got the wholesale phasing out of fossil fuels wrong ? Remember ;

Anyway, I have a long history on here and on the D3/D4 forum, receiving much help for which I am very grateful and helping many people along the way - including more recently with decisions related to their newly acquired EVs. Having a D4 (hopefully soon an L322 may replace it if I find the right one) and running an EV for the wife and local duties I can really assist in the comparisons of both.

Our EV was the Ipace and now is a Kia Niro. I have never charged it on a public network and can replace 40% of the battery using only the 7.5p rate each night. That replaces around 120miles nightly on our usage. The tarif we have is Intelligent Octopus. 6 hours of off peak every night 11.30 till 5.30 am.

EV's are amazing if they fit your circumstances. The savings are massive.... our previous family run abouts were X5 40d, Jeep SRT8, Mini Countryman Cooper S, and a couple of Ford galaxy's.

The running costs for the EV's have not even equated to 1 tenth of any on that list.


If they fit your life, there is nothing currently better in terms of economy as long as you can home charge.





I must add though.... any journey over 300 miles or a family holiday & rooftop camping is always undertaken in the Disco and hopefully soon a supercharged L322. EV's still can't compete in some areas!

Certainly EV's have their place, our household could use one as a runabout/short journey vehicle & keep the RR for longer journeys.

However, financially, an EV is too expensive to purchase ATM**. Otherwise, we would be in an ideal position have a 4kVa Solar Panel Installation, a good nightime/weekend tariff for when the sun does not shine & off road parking.

Personally, I'm not against EV's at all but I do object to those who have converted constantly trying to convince me that's the way to go. I know most of the pro's & cons either way.

** Even though the 2nd vehicle is a Mobility car the down payments are still far too high compared to the equivalent fossil fuelled vehicle.

First of all, this has nothing to do with being pro or anti RR's. There's been a PHEV RR for a number of years and shortly there'll be a BEV, so it's quite right that it's discussed on this forum.

There are many people who are committed to being all doom and gloom about EVs, typically spouting absolute rubbish about them, how they work, lifetime environmental impact, grid can’t cope and so on. These are often the ones who often say they are never going to buy one as they’re too expensive compared to their £300 20 year old Ford Focus in which they do 500 miles every day without stopping for breaks whilst also towing a caravan. Sadly these people can’t be reasoned with.

Then on the other side are the EV owners. Some go too far and start pushing their agenda to the point it annoys people (particularly those for who an EV genuinely doesn’t work out for at present), but many just try to dispel the many myths pushed by £300 focus person. Several people I know, once I’ve told them the truths about EVs have ended up getting one and love it.

At the end of the day, EVs are generally great. Even better if they work for you and your circumstances. I used to have a Mitsubishi Outlander plug in hybrid with was fantastic until my commute doubled in length and had no charger at work. That meant instead of doing around 45-50 miles on electric (with it charging for free whilst I was at work), I was doing 100 miles of which only 20-25 was on electric. That changed the equation and so in the end it went.
