do i need GapIID or will a $10 ebay BT obd reader be ok?

Hello

I was told that Landrover moved to a new system in 2017 that restricts use of 3rd party diagnostics?

I only need a basic version. I want to be able to read fault codes and reset the orange engine warning light that triggers when im driving through europe and have to use E10 petrol.

I do not need a high end system for programming cars but i also do not want to damage my car by plugging something into the OBD port that could damage the car.

cheers
