When my steering wheel goes back in it squeeks a bit. (only going in, it does not make any noise going up and down or out) I have tried a couple of lubricants including WD40 and silicon lubricant but within a day, the squeek comes back, any one know what is best to use?

I am considering applying grease to the thread but I didnt fancy applying that if that could damage anything. Reformed

You definitely shouldn't use WD40 as it acts as a solvent rather than a lubricant. It strips grease/oil off of things (that's why you use it to clean greasy tools) which then means things will wear much faster.

There is a special thin grease LR use, I don't have the part number to hand, but it is available as a separate part to the steering column and comes in a little sachet - perhaps someone with Microcat could give you the part number
