New to the forum and new to Range Rover

So a newbie to the forum, having just collected my new L322 2012 Westminster yesterday. I always loved the shape of the L322 and the fact they are bit more analogue than the L405. (Also as a second car, I could not justify the increased spend on a later model doing relatively low miles each year as there is more space for depreciation). I can do basic maintenance but don't have the equipment or more crucially the know how to carry out any significant maintenance so I wanted to get one which I hope should give relatively trouble free motoring. I am not foolish enough to think that having bought a complex 11 year old SUV, that things wont go wrong but in an effort to minimise the risks, I wanted a relatively low miles car that had been clearly looked after.

My wife thought I was looking for a unicorn but recently one appeared for sale that ticked all my boxes -
Grey with black leather
Mileage was under 54,000 when I got it yesterday
Standard car which had been well maintained and treasured
Fitted with LR detachable Westfalia too with twin electrics and deployable sidesteps
Car came with a huge amount of history and receipts
The sellers were lovely people to deal with and that made the entire experience very special too.

The car is in fantastic condition and the almost 300 miles I did in it yesterday and it is a beautiful place to be.

I have done a lot of browsing on the forum in recent weeks and I have already learned a huge amount from the collective brains of the forum. I look forward to contributing more and will get some photos uploaded in coming days.

Welcome.

That sounds nice. Lower mileage examples becoming rarer now and can sometimes be priced at a premium.

Still love mine after 7 years.

Some photos just to prove it really exists. I must confess they are the seller's photos from his ad.
Flew over on Wednesday morning, drove to see the car, deal done and drove to Holyhead and back on the ferry to Dublin, then a 2 Hour drive home. One key fob had a chipped plastic corner, so I ordered the OEM repair kit from Rimmer Bros. Also ordered a new set of Bosch wiper blades.
First impressions are this is an amazing car.

I couldn't have bought my Range Rover at a better time. A few days of snow showed the sure footedness of all wheel drive. So my early plans for the car -
I had the underside looked at with a view to having it undersealed. I am fortunate to live close to two Land Rover specialists. Chassis Seal NI said they hadn't seen such a clean L322 in a long time, which of course is great news. Anthony, the owner explained that they use Dinitrol and inject it using high pressure sprays into the box section cavities as well as coating the exterior having masked up things like brake lines and removed plastic arch liners etc. It looks like a great way to protect the L322 chassis long into the future and at a great price. You can read reviews of Dinitrol online vs WaxOyl.

The second plan is to use another local specialist called Beyond Performance 4 x 4 who offer a check over of a newly purchased vehicle. They charge just £65 and give the car a good check over and advise what needs done. I know mine has been well cared for but I'm thinking that going forward it will need serpentine belts and tensioners done, gearbox oil and filter change, diff oil change and of course bushes etc.

I bought a set of L405 alloys with Pirelli Scorpion Verde tyres. I think they are 502s? I added a photo. They will go on to let me get the existing wheels refurbished.

Good choice for the L322 - mine came with them and I only later found out they were non standard. Watch your speed as the bigger tyre causes the speedo to read dead on with no margin for error. You can fix this with a GAP IID tool. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

The wheels look great Jaygee and there are lots of sets to be had if anyone is looking a new / spare set for their L322.
Thanks for the heads up on the speedo issue too.

Lots of L405 sell these 'standard' wheels when they want to 'upgrade' to 2" or 22" - their loss / our gain.... 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

So yesterday I picked up this set of wheels. They are in great condition and had 2 nearly new Sorpion Verdes and 2 Michelin Latitudes with around 4mm and all for just over the cost of a Sorpion tyre.

I may sell on the L405 wheels I bought previously.

The Rangie is in today and tomorrow getting an oil and filter change, diff oil, transfer box oil, underseal treatment and a general check over. The garage I use offer the gearbox flush and replacement oil but it costs £350 so that will wait for a while but probably worth doing as it approaches 60k miles.

Next is to get the rear arches tidied too.

I noticed the Westminster badge was corroding a little possibly due to age so I'm thinking of removing it and respraying with titanium paint. Also the trim strip above the rear number plate, on my car is chrome which doesn't match the Range Rover lettering so I'm going to remove it and spray it titanium too. If all else fails I can buy a strip in the titanium colour for around £25.

One really simple thing, I had a line appearing on the side of the driver seat base where it gets rubbed on the plastic trim which houses the seat adjusters. I bought a bottle of black dye from Scratch Doctor and applied a couple of coats with a small artists brush. Good as new. Scratch Doctor sells via eBay but itvwas cheaper going direct to their website. I will copy this to the Ebay finds page too.

So on Friday I changed the alloys on the Westminster. I fitted a set of wheels I bought from a Range Rover Sport fitted with 255/55/20 tyres. Alloys were in great condition after a good clean and I coated with Gtechniq C5 wheel armour. Tyre guy said the wheel nuts had swollen as 22mm socket was really tight. I suggested he try a bigger socket. Lol. However I will look at ordering a new set - eBay stainless ones have 5 year warranty for £35 delivered.

I love how these wheels look and they are easy to clean. The originals will get refurbed in due course. Interestingly, the original wheels are much lighter than the other wheels from an L405 that I was going to fit until these sport ones appeared for sale.

The jeep was also in with my mechanic this week and had both diff and the transfer box oil changed and it was undersealed (in black) with the arch liners removed then reftted and the visible components in behind the wheels was coated with Lanoguard. And he chaged a beake pad sensor cable as the one fitted bybthe previous owner alongbwith new discs and pads had startedcshowing a warning. Healthcheck was really reassuring as the said it was so clean an bushes etc all in excellent order. It will get an oil change before MoT in August as it has only covered 4k since then. Leaving the gearbox flush for a while as jeep has only 56k on it. I fitted a Nextbase 522GW today too but will do the hard wire into the to centre console having seen it done in Sam's Motor & Machine videos on YouTube.

Next job is to get the rear arches tidied and then to paint the chrome strip above the number plate and the Westminster badge as it is corroding a little. Going to do them titanium to match the lettering and other trims.

Thanks evotime. I'm delighted with the car. Picked it up via private sale on 4 January. Last owner bought it as an approved used car from Stratstone with 35k miles at around 4 years old. He had it for more than 6 years and covered around 3k miles between MoTs. I bought it with 53k. Sadly he passed last year and his son was selling it. Really lovely family. It was his pride and joy and I'm fortunate to carry on enjoying it and caring for it. He was a mechanic and looked after the car personally. It was definitely pampered.
