That's an interesting post. Having done all the timing on my 4.2 last summer, here's a couple of observations I made:

The 4.2 Supercharged has 4 timing chains, 1 short one in each head that links the cams and a long one for each head that links one cam and the crank. The 5.0 has one chain for each side and another to drive the oil pump/high pressure fuel pumps. The chains don't look as substantial on the 5.0 as they do on the 4.2 either!

The chain guides on the 4.2 are aluminium with a plastic cover whereas all of those were completely plastic too.
