Great vehicles allow a bit of cash to flush the gearbox and transfer box and diffs and also expect a bit of corrosion on the rear wheel arches and the sills and you will need to buy a 11D tool for diagnostics then you are good to go |

I think the 4.2 is one of the best fatties ever produced, I'm sure you'd love it. What I would worry about are the financials. Its cheap enough to buy and the normal running costs are easy enough to bottom out - you can either afford them or not. The issue is it was a £100k car, its 16 years old and surprisingly complex electrically/electronically and parts can be pretty expensive. If something big goes you could be in for 5 figure fix. Good preventative advice from SandyT should minimise the risks...and mine was faultless for 5 years and 60k miles - but not everyone is as lucky. In Pistonheads terms, its the brave pill. Mike - MPx

Just as info I do about 15 to 20k a year in mine but I spend circa 3k a year on maintenance but have always over serviced my cars and replace bearings /bushes at the slightest sign of wear. So far never let me down in 12 years |

Looks a pretty decent example. I'd want the dings in the passenger door and lower tailgate taken care of though. |
