P400E hybrid. How to BLOCK engine charging battery .

I thought I worked it out.. .. but I did not.

The last few miles to my home are through a forest. At night I always go slow there, like 40 Mph.

This to reduce the risk of driving into wildlife. At lower speeds they mostly have time to jump away.

Some time ago, I noticed fuel consumption going to 18 L / 100kms at this speed, normal around 5 L /100km.

I switched the infotainment to 'My EV' and realized the engine was charging the battery at 10x the cost of

what it would cost me from the grid, like 6 miles down that road ! Evil or Very Mad

I thought I worked it out, by pushing the start/stop and blocking this function, it worked.. .. once ..

On another forum I learned BMW has a setting to prevent this in the cockpit controls.

Anybody has some help on this ? Maybe the dealer can do it by blocking it in the engine management ?

Very annoying this.. Rolling Eyes I-pace First Edition Santorini & 2nd car Mazda MX-30 Advantage red/black

I think there must be some misunderstanding. Any engine output that recharges the battery is normal, excess energy. The engine revs are the engine revs for the speed and engine/coolant temperature, so there is no excess throttle inpu (i.e. revs) that would cause higher consumption based on battery charging. The primary source of battery charging while driving ways regenerative braking (not using the pads/discs but instead some dynamo gizmo to create drag and so a battery charge). Maybe less trust in BMW forums is the answer?! L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

Nope. I understand it perfectly well, with help of the fuel consumption meter, and the My EV display.

I come off the highway, a blast for almost one hour going almost 90 MPH constant. Then I turn off,

go into the forest and drive 40 MPH. In front of my eyes, consumption shoots up moments after the

'My EV' gets the battery turn green, and the "0 KM" EV range steadily increases with about 1 km per

3 km driven. Its evident : its charging the battery as if I would instruct it to "save" , which I did not..

Try it once with your car. With "0 kM" EV-range and the My EV screen on, watch you fuel consumption

once you drive 40 MPH.. I-pace First Edition Santorini & 2nd car Mazda MX-30 Advantage red/black
