Air filter installation question.

After replacing the air and fuel filters I noticed that the air box was not connected to a round seal next the the wing of the car, does this play a key role? Guessing it helps air flow into the car from the front somewhere? Or is it simply there to stop debris entering the filter from the engine bay?

Having an issue with undoing the screws of the air box so before I go through the hassle of taking it all off I thought I would ask. I guess it needs doing… 2009 pre-facelift 3.6 TDV8.

Scrap that, I decided to stop being lazy and take it all out and do it property. Be interesting to know what its intended purpose is.

I only have 3 good screws for the airbox, the rest are rusted out and had to be removed. Can’t get hold of the new ones which are on back order, the cheapest I found were the Jag ones… https://britcar.com/product.php/286003/549...vin_d88173 2009 pre-facelift 3.6 TDV8.

Standard screws work. The course thread is for plastic but it doesn’t matter. I took an original screw to a fastening supplier and bought 12 full thread stainless. Cost about £1.50 for all 12. Compared to £300 LR wanted for two new housings ! They said screws not available.

I currently have three original ones that seem to be doing the job but I have been recommended normal screws too via another thread I started which can be seen here:
