Steering rack leaking

Hi all

I have fluid poring out of my steering rack, well a joint on it and wondered if anyone knew if it was a replacement rack needed or I could replace the washer or something on the rack.

The leak s coming from the top nut which would be top left in the picture below. Thanks for any help

If it's like a brake banjo bolt try tightening it up first.

They do come loose, mine leaked from one of those.
Din't have the flex head ratchet so it went to the Indy.
They tightened it and it worked fine after.

Also keep an eye on ps fluid, you don't want to run too low.

Thanks both. Got it in the air and got under and it was loose so managed to get a ratchet spanner on and tightened it up. The fluid reservoir was nearly empty but had some fluid and have topped it up. Tried to bleed it but still a bit of a whine from the pump but will try a more thorough bleed and hope the pump hasn't been run dry too long and it's broke. The whine did considerably reduce so suspect a little bit of air still on there.

Looks like an easy fix in the end before I tried to remove the rack. Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue

Leak

Hi there,

My rack seems to be leaking at the top as well, at the screw probably, at least as much I could see that…can I access this screw if lifting the car to offroad mode? Is it just a simple ratchet to tighten it and thats it?

TIA

If it is a banjo bolt that is the source of the leak, and the bolt is not loose, then the bolt may require new sealing washers, generally a copper sealing washer or a dowty seal ( metal washer with a rubber seal )
If the washers are copper, they should be soft, if not anneal them prior to fitting to get a good seal.
Hope this helps.

On mine I could get under there on drive up ramps and I got someone to carefully turn the wheel and could see the fluid coming out. There are two bolts next to each other with lines coming out. I needed to use a wobble head ratchet spanner and was able to get it on and tighten the leaking one up and so far so good since then. I topped up the fluid and turned the wheel full lock a few times to expel any air and that was it.

Once I was under there following the trail of wetness it was fairly obvious where it was coming from and which bolt to tighten. Good luck Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue
