2007 front speakers XQM 500170

The driver side door speaker blew a good while ago. Now the front passenger has started to create the flap noise. My question is do I need to replace them like for like with part number XQM 500170 or is there an alternative out there that can be used?

Beware Land Rover speakers are often 2 ohm, whereas most aftermarket are 4 or 8 ohm.
Also typical OE speakers have more sensitivity - ie every Watt from the radio generates more noise.

If the relevant values aren't matched, a replacement speaker will be much quieter and often not audible - unless all speakers are changed together. Paul,

Thanks for the info. Is there a way of finding out what the Ohm of the original is?

I think the ohms are in the Workshop Manual.
Sensitivity won't be. I'm not sure if it's on the speaker labels Paul,

I've replaced loads now - really common for the low ranges to experience coil rub. They're XQM500170 (now replaced by XQM500420). They're about £50 each from main dealer.

I'm aware of only one retrofit part which is the GAS PS3M62 PRO SPL. You'll need to get them imported from Norway however. They're about €100 for a pair, plus shipping, plus VAT. They are apparently significantly better quality than the Harmon Kardon speakers.

You can actually replace these speakers without needing to remove the whole door card. Just remove the door card screws and pop off the lower trim clips and flex out the door card a bit and there's enough space to fit a small T20 Screwdriver inside to swap the speakers over. Takes about 5 minutes per door. There's 5 screws and 1 multiplug on the side of the speaker. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Hi all,

Sorry to be that guy and resurrect an old thread, poor form.. I know!

My passenger side has also now gone crackly and I wondered if the XQM500170 is interchangeable with the newer XQM500420? I've been shopping around (money's being spent on more important mechanicals first!) and seen a fair few used -170s as opposed to the OEM -420.

Thanks in advance. I'll start a new thread if this is fully closed Thumbs Up

Ryan
