RR SV Autobography

Hi all,

I am currently looking at buying a RR SVA. Do many on the forum have an SVA? or good knowledge on the SVA. I'm just wondering what to look for in terms of any common issues. I have been looking at 2018/19.

As you can see below i have had RR's for many years and my last one has been nothing but trouble, i've tried all the so called equivalents but nothing seems to come near a RR in my opinion.

Thanks in advance for any advice on the SVA.

Well mine is a '17 so pre face lift and "only" 543BHP so not directly relevant to your search. As you know from your experience, with JLR you just have to be lucky. I don't think the SVAs will be any different in that regard to any other fatty. Of my three previous: one was a nightmare; one was a saint; and the other very good. I'm 2.4 years and 26k miles into the SVA and so far has been great and in nearly every way the best yet (tho don't get me started on folding the rear seats!). Hopefully I'll still be saying that in another three years or so when its time to move it on.

FWIW the only issue I've had is a mild blowout on the OS rear tyre and closer inspection has shown that it was badly worn on the inner shoulder but otherwise even across the tread still ~2mm above the wear bar. The NS rear was also badly worn on its inner shoulder and both fronts starting to show similar. Don't know if this is specific to my car, a geo fault, or just how the Conti LX Sports wear on this model. I had a similar issue with Conti's on my first l322 but not with the Nokian replacements. Had ATs on the 4.2 and 5.0 also without issue.

Thanks for response MPx

I have had one nightmare out of six. Funny you should mention the rear tyres, the one i'm interested in which meets my spec, failed its MOT on the 2 rear tyres down to the metal on the inside. This is a one owner car 20000 miles.

I had two in 2019. First one all electrics shut down and no fault found meaning it was probably a dodgy earth. Technician told me it will probably happen again and could not fix it if they could not get to the source. Some other gremlins appeared as the weeks went on, so car was rejected. JLR were really good about it and built another to my spec which I collected from the factory a few months later. I ran the "faulty" car for the few months while the new one was being built.

The replacement car had no issues whatsoever during the time I had it although the factory had forgotten to download the satnav maps and I had that download a couple of days later at the local dealer.

I really liked the car. The SV/A Dynamic is really well specced especially from mid 2019 when all the extras were added as standard (Apple Car Play etc). The fuel consumption was early 20's. I think they are great value on the second hand market, if you get a good one. There is an element of luck. Maybe stick to the approved dealerships for warranty and jump on an niggles early on.

South Africa 2007 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Zermatt Silver

Buy it when you get the right one.

I bought one about 6 months ago, albeit the SVAB LWB 2016 model. We enjoyed this car tremendously until a guy drove into us.

Car is still with panelbeaters as some of the parts have to be imported from UK (I am in South Africa) and LRSA gave a waiting time of about 14 - 21 working days. Can’t wait for the car to be repaired.

MPx, DJIT, thanks for your replies they are really helpful, I keep looking at other makes, however, drift straight back to RR. My 4.4 has gone now so i'm on the look out, i have my eye on two which meet my specification.

They are dropping in price fast at the moment, therefore i'm not rushing in to it.
