2012 Rear Entertainment - Bluetooth headphone upgrade?

Good day all,

I've recently bought (another) L322. This is a 2012 model with the rear entertainment screens, but no headphones. Instead of buying second-hand IR headphones on eBay, I'm wondering if I could splice a Bluetooth transmitter into the wiring of the IR transmitter so I could use normal Bluetooth headphones instead.

The wiring diagram has two "LH Audio +VE" and two "RH Audio +VE" connections, presumably one for each screen so I guess I'd need two Bluetooth transmitters. Has anyone got any experience of doing something like this? Are these wires carrying normal line-level analog signals, or something weird?

This is the kind of Bluetooth transmitter I'm talking about:

Many thanks for any advice!

Good news! I put one end of a chopped-up jack lead into the connector pins (picture below), plugged in some headphones and got sound.

Looking at the connector in the picture, the three wires on the left are for the left screen (orange = right, green = left, black = ground), and the next three are for the right screen (yellow= left, blue=right, black = ground).

It's a bit tight up there so I'll have a look at the other end by the power amp to see if there's more room to splice in my Bluetooth transmitters.

Be a handy way to add a socket for wired headphones, or a BT transmitter to allow the front seat passenger to listen to the audio for a DVD while the front output is muted. Annoys me that the wife can watch a DVD but I have to listen to it while I'm driving. 2012 (L322) 4.4TDV8 Vogue SE, RSE, Fuji White over Arabica.

Install complete. It works, but the sound quality is pretty poor. I need to do some more investigation to work out where the problem is.

This is what I did:

Step 1. Prepare a couple of 3.5mm jack leads for connecting to T-taps

Step 2. Connect T-taps to headphone unit. Note: wire colours are different on the headphone unit.

Step 3. Take 12V power from the red and black cables on pins 1 and 2, and connect it all up.

first of all you connected two recievers in parallel it is mistake.. You should connect transmiter directly to the plug. Second issue may be impedance mismatch.

That's a good point, it sounds like some frequencies are more attenuated than others. I'll buy a new connector and wire the BT transmitters directly to that.

Just finished, and it works like a charm! I believe the L405, Sport, and the Evoque use similar IR headphones so this will probably work on them too.

I've made a PDF of instructions for anyone else wanting to repeat it.
