SDV8 Oil Change with Castrol Magnatec Professional A5 5W-30

Hi all

I don't know (?) if I am over thinking this but I want to give an oil change a go once the 3rd party warranty runs out so have been doing some research on this forum. When looking at my service invoice from the local indie LR specialist that has been servicing the vehicle it indicates they are using Castrol Magnatec Professional A5 5W-30 for the oil change.

Per the Owners guide for the 2017 model it says "SAE 5W-30 meeting Jaguar Land Rover specification STJLR.03.5005. If unavailable, SAE 5W-30 meeting specification ACEA C2 may be used." for variants "Diesel vehicles with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF)"

Per the Castrol website for the Magnatec Stop Start 5W-30 it says the industry specification is API SN and ACEA A3/B3, A3/B4. I also read somewhere that the incorrect oil may damage the DPF. Hence my question.

As an aside I have followed the extensive post on DPF regeneration on this forum (also posting my own experience) and purchased an OBD2 reader and Car Scanner app to monitor the regenerations and have been monitoring this religously to ensure the active regens are completing.

I am based in NZ and doesn't get particuarly hot or cold (typically 10-25 celsius) here in Auckland so I dont' know if that makes a difference.

I'll call the indie but thought would ask some of the experts .. cheers for any inputs. 2017 L405 Vogue SDV8 AB

You shouldn't use an A5/B5 oil if a DPF is fitted.

Thank you Graeme ... I did some checking on the Castrol site and it seems the following is the correct oil to use.

"Castrol EDGE Professional C1 5W-30 is recommended and approved for use in vehicles that require a Jaguar Land Rover engine oil specification STJLR.03.5005 lubricant."

I will call the indie today. 2017 L405 Vogue SDV8 AB

Seems like the incorrect spec oil was used .. probably 11,000km on wrong oil. Goes in Monday to have it replaced. 2017 L405 Vogue SDV8 AB

Note that Magnatec Start-Stop is produced in both A5 5W30 and 5W30, being the A3/B3 A3/B4 that you initially referenced. It's still not a C2 specification though.

Thanks Graeme yes they had been putting the A5 oil version in the car, but have acknowledged this is the incorrect oil and C2 should of been used. They will do a full oil\filter change on Monday. Hope nothing to adverse has happened. 2017 L405 Vogue SDV8 AB

The A5 is better for the engine but not so good for the DPF.
