Advise in regards to L405 standing/not started for 3 months

Could somebody (mechanic) with a lot more experience than me help please?

I'm waiting for a part from JLR to fix my 2015 L405, but the car in a non runner without it. Although they have given me a hire car, I am mindful that my car is sitting outside and hasn't moved or even been stated for over 3 months. The part I am waiting for stops the car from starting.

I'm keen to contact JLR through the dealership who has it to let them know of my concerns. Batteries aside, what do I need to make them aware of that might be problematic in the future that I need to ensure is considered? Maybe it isn't an issue?

The car is covered under the full JLR warranty still and gets externals pampered often, so great condition all this aside.

Thank you for any help.

If it's getting washed where it sits then the first thing is it will have rusty discs, if the handbrake was left on I suspect that will be rusted up as well.

The batterys could be depleted and this will effect their longevity...

Having said that mine was left on the drive for over 40 days while we were away and started no problem and seems to have had no issues...

I would ask the dealer to do a multi point health check on it, before you get it back... Thumbs Up Pete

Thanks very much for the replies.

I was (overly?) worried that there may be some potential problems I wouldn't know about that I should be making everybody involved aware of. Maybe even RR specific problems with the car sitting for so long (and who knows how long still).

Cheers.

They were left standing for a lot longer during lockdown - I’d just keep the batteries charged up - we have some diggers and tractors sat for months at a time without issue. If we have concerns we just crank the engine with the electric stop / solenoid on the fuel pump disconnected so that the engine cranks without firing / starting which makes sure oil gets round to the bearings and rings and then reconnect and start as normal. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Maybe ask them to disconnect the battery so it won't get dangerously low/fail... Thumbs Up

How hard is the JLR parts situation hitting owners? As a newcomer I knew that new orders were suffering seemingly exponential delays, but a discussion with an underwriter told me that the length of time accident damaged LR products were laid up waiting parts was leading to more cars, and increasingly younger ones, being written off. This was behind the increase in premiums and fewer companies offering cover. At least one major insurer had closed their book to any LR cars under five years old

Just how bad is the situation with 5-10yo cars?
