United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Stornoway Grey
Turbo whistle/whine

Morning folks, whilst driving my 3.6TdV8 with the windows down yesterday I noticed a constant turbo whistle/whine. Is this the normal turbo sound for these motors as I've never noticed it before? Current collection :

2007 Vogue TDV8 Stornoway grey, black on black
1982 JCB Sitemaster (resto)
1970 MGB

Ok, now you've got me worried 😫 What would be causing it?

I have replaced the intake hoses with upgraded silicone hoses as two standard hoses have split during my ownership causing low boost with the inevitable bing. Could this be anything to do with it ie excessive pressure?

I'm a competent home mechanic and do the majority of my own spannering but I don't really know much about the workings of the turbo system Current collection :

Split boost hoses cause the turbo’s to overspin as the ecu tries to compensate for less than expected boost which will damage them and hence the noise. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Mine did this a while back, whilst a td6 single turbo, i thought it was the turbo on the way out, i checked all the hoses and they looked fine. However one of the vacuum hoses was cracked so i replaced it but noise still there.

My Symptoms were the whistling over 2000rpm and slow on pickup- which suggested stuck actuator

Just before i was going to book it in for a new turbo i double checked the vacuum system and found the new section of hose i replaced wasn't sealing the vacuum reservoir so a could of small jubilee clamps and problem fixed.

Assuming you have a vacuum reservoir to the actuator on the turbo check along each join to make sure you have suction.

Guys thanks for your replies 👍🏻 I think with this one I'll leave it into my local indy specialist and let them give it the once over. I've had to free up stuck actuators and replaced two ruptured intake hoses since I've owned it but as I said, I don't know enough about the turbo system to check or diagnose the problem. Fingers crossed it's a simple fix 🙏🏻 Current collection :

Morning, I managed to get a look under my RR at the weekend and think that I have located the whistle. There is a pipe on the front of the drivers side turbo that appears to have a rubber seal around the neck and it looks as if this has come away from the turbo slightly. I have attached some pics to show what I mean but here's the question.....

How in the name of all that's holy do I get in there to remove, check and reattach it fully, for there's no way I can get my hand I to the tiny gap below???
