Hi all

I have been running Yokohama Advans 255/50/20 which have been fine, lasted around 16k so not too bad.. but shall I switch to something else for a all round better tyre ?

So the options I think I know about are

1. Pirelli Scorpion Zero which I can get for £175 each (255/50/20)
2. Cooper Zeon LTZ around £130 each (275/45/20)
3. Yokos again around £170 each (255/50/20)


Or should I think about something else, what do you think ?

Mostly Road use with a little gentle off roading, I do response work in the winter months so need to keep that in mind as not really thinking of a second set of alloys..

Any thoughts or experience of these tyres then let me know

Stick with OE LR Sizes i.e. 255/50/20 otherwise you invalidate your insurance by running non OE FFRR sizes. The 275 sizes were NEVER fitted to FFRR's by LR and LR will not back you up!

oh and Michelin had 66k out of a set from new, but that was on a Classic

My Continentals did 30,000 (down to the bars granted) - are you telling me the Pirelli's will be worse

I now always change mine at 3mm, GY and Pirelli lasted 25k each to 3mm on 19"

if you are fitting stormers 255 tyres may not be wide enough for them. Stormers usually have 275's as std on a Sport - Some Stormers depending on if they are genuine or not are wider than FF Wheels so will kerb really easily with 255's

as VOGUE says...RRS stormer wheels are 9.5j and need 275/45/20 tyres on them....FFRR wheels are at most 8.5j so the max width size is 255/50/20...

they will also look daft - like a fat bird in a skimpy dress trying to escape

Well update for you...

I got a set of genuine Supercharger wheels with almost new tyres from Ebay, Guy was a gent and drove half way (Newcastle to Derby, I drove from Surrey to Derby !!!) to meet me, agreed £650... when I got there the wheels were not quite as immaculate as i had hoped (but still pretty ruddy good, one or two minor scratches) but after a haggle i left with the wheels/tyres for £475, on the car now and yes the offset is different but I am actually liking the "Natural" look, Stormers in the Shed just in case, but result as tyres wold have been £800, so a bargain all round, and I can still sell mine if I choose...

Sell - wife says., winter tyres my heart says Now how to hide four large wheels in a small shed so she does not notice
