SDV8 Whine

Hi all, can any SDV8 owners (2018-on) confirm if when you come to a stop, you get a whine (can’t tell where from) which lasts for roughly 30 secs or so ?, it only does this when fully warm, and does it regardless if you’ve driven 10 miles or 10 feet. I’ve taken it to a JLR dealer, who have had it nearly 2 weeks, had 3 different techs look at it, can’t find the problem, so now have said, they haven’t got a like for like car on site to compare with so think that’s what they all do 🤬
It’s a 2018 sdv8 ab if that makes any difference ?

Thx TK

Morning, I’ve only had mine two weeks and still getting over the grin factor but as I’ve had no radio for those two weeks I haven’t heard a whine - except from the passenger seat occupant telling me to slow down Rolling with laughter

Exactly.
Apparently £350 on mudflaps is “too much for just a car”. Pfft.
Just wait till all the mats arrive Rolling with laughter

Get what you mean, although my passenger seat has more of a drone 😂,
Picked it up from the dealers this morning as they say nothing wrong 🙄, managed to get my brother to roll it forward a couple of mts while I listened, and from as far as I can tell, it sounds like it’s coming from the passenger side blade area near the A pillar, although it does sound slightly louder from inside the cab ? And it only started doing it when it was fully warmed up (temp needle in central position)
Anyone got any suggestions ?

I've never heard of a whine when coming to a stop before.

Perhaps do a recording and post it up? Kev

Could be the return pump on the ABS-Traction Control unit.

Just to update,
I went to my preferred MD, mainly to get a service booked in, and while talking to the advisor, one of the techs came over re another matter, so I thought I’d pick his brain. After describing the noise etc, straight away he said ‘sounds like one of the coolant pumps’, so asked while carrying out the service can someone look into it, which they did and confirmed it is a coolant pump, so hopefully 🤞🏻 all will be good 👍🏻, only problem now is the only slot they have is end of April 🙄 got a trip up to Glasgow next week so everything is crossed it doesn’t cause any more problems 🙄

Hey Nowaytk,

Mine does this whine at idle in traffic. I thought it might be to do with the ARC system but your findings suggest otherwise.

Does your whine cease when you raise the engine rpm slightly above idle?

Mines a 2016my 4.4 sdv8.

Thanks

To be honest, I haven’t tried increasing the revs while stationary (always been in gear ready to move off), all I can say is, the whine disappears when foot off the brake (starting to move), or after around 20/30 seconds stationary, but I only have to creep forward a meter or so for the whole process to start again. Next time I can get it warm enough I’ll put it into N or P to check if the rpm makes a difference when stationary

Update;
It’s certainly been a while, but finally, no more whine 😃, the coolant pump made no difference, so after finally getting it back in to the dealership, someone with a bit more knowledge (or guidance 🙄) managed to get to the cause, just as Mariana thought it turns out it was an ‘internal failure within valve block from ARC system’, been on a few trips now that gets everything up to temp, silence, bliss👍🏻
