Afternoon folks,

The old girl has been driving me nuts over the past few weeks with this error. Basically, it just won't start for ages and then all of a sudden, everything runs fine. Sometimes I have to wait a few seconds for the car to start on the button, other times it takes up to 10 minutes or longer. The same is true for turning the car off - sometimes the button just doesn't react.
The error code would suggest it's something to do with communication to and from the immobiliser. If I clear the code with my GAP tool the car starts and stops perfectly for a while.
Battery voltage is fine, car is used daily for decent trips and runs otherwise perfectly.
Any ideas what this could be?

Are you sure your start/stop button hasn't just worn? 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

The button is fine. When the code is cleared it starts/stops instantly. If/when the code reappears, it's as if it's dead (until it starts that is!). -------------------------

And simple things like when the batteries were last changed in the key fobs?

Does the issue still persist when using your spare key, to rule out it being an issue with the chip in one of them?

I'm just trying to think of simple things first before exploring immobiliser / column lock issues (which have been known on the older L322s). 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Both key batteries were changed when this malarky started (Duracell!) and it made no difference. Keys are working fine. -------------------------

What is the fault code?

B1108-15 Driver’s door central locking motor - general electrical failure.

I’m guessing this is just a phantom code like some of the other electrical ones that pop up from time to time to remind us we’re driving LR vehicles… -------------------------

It will be reporting a real situation but it could be caused by either a wiring fault or a motor fault, so should be considered in light of the other behaviour but could also be the cause of the other behaviour. I would persue the door locking fault because there is something concrete to chase, at least whilst the fault persists.

Success! Can’t say exactly what did it, but I dismantled, unplugged, cleaned and sprayed all connectors related to starter button/door mechanisms/steering column/immobiliser/ and even scrubbed and starter motor and battery terminals/fuse box connections. Since then there have been no phantom errors and the car starts faster than ever on the button - every time. I’m going to perform similar actions moving forward on any jobs I do around the car as a while-I’m-in-there precaution. One day I’ll have all connectors cleaned and sprayed!

Next job - the dreaded EGR/manifold sensor. Wish me luck. If I get that done, I’ll have an error free car (for a while!)  -------------------------

Great! Did you clean the temrinals on the distribution block behind the battery as that one seems to be a regular culprit for general electrical problems.

I haven't had to clean mine yet but the battery will need to be removed to gain access, then just remove the nuts and terminals to clean all the contact spots with a light sanding.
