Can a L405 be towed

Just watched a video from 4XOverland on youtube about issues with new Defender, one being it cant be towed as handbrake automatically comes on after 10mins. Is this the case with a L405? 2007 TDV8 VSE

He is right the electric brake will come on if it's not put in 'N' before the engine is turned off.

Recovery L405 CAUTIONS:

Make sure the vehicle recovery and/or transportation is carried out by suitably qualified personnel, and the vehicle is secured correctly.

The recovery agent must activate the transmission park release before recovery commences. Failure to
activate the transmission park release can result in serious transmission damage.
The vehicle should not be towed on all four wheels and should not be recovered with the front or rear
wheels suspended. Doing so can result in serious transmission damage.
The method for recovery and/or transportation of the vehicle is on a transporter or trailer designed for that purpose.

WARNING:
Make sure that the vehicle is secured with wheel chocks, then apply the Electric Parking Brake (EPB) or
firmly press the brake pedal. Two people are required for this procedure. Failure to do so can result in
unexpected movement of the vehicle, causing serious injury or death.
When recovering the vehicle, it is essential that the transmission park release mechanism is activated. Activating the
transmission park release mechanism locks the transmission in Neutral (N) and prevents the transmission from
automatically selecting Park (P). 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

As the man says its unbelievable that an "offroad" vehicle cannot be towed out of an offroad situation.
So on the l405 where is the Transmission park release and would putting the handbrake into service mode via diagnostics stop it coming on?
Remember on the P38`s you just had to put in a fuse, 11 from memory. 2007 TDV8 VSE

You can tow it (recover it from an off road situation) as long as the engine is running though, surely? in which case the vehicle would presumably be in gear (forward or reverse) ready to try and move under its own steam FFRR SDV8 Autobiography

You could simply pull the gearbox neutral release and with the handbrake in the off position, unplug the handbrake motors behind the rear calliper's... Thumbs Up

Mine doesn't automatically apply the EPB. It's a CCF option that isn't enabled on mine.

I leave mine in the garage with the HB off, I hold the park Brake lever down until I switch the engine off and this keeps it off.

If you pull the park release, I can't see that it's much different from any other automatic 4x4 - if you flat-tow it for any distance with the props connected, you'll destroy the gearbox anyway.

I always leave mine in the garage, in park. The handbrake is off. Is this correct. My garage is level. 2013 SDV8 4.4 SE Luxor.

Also, that 4xoverland bloke has a massive chip. Most odd.

Or you could follow the manual Whistle

EPB CAUTION:
This procedure requires the vehicle in the Park or Neutral position, with the ignition turned ON (the engine
must be OFF) and the parking brake system released.
NOTE:
This procedure allows the parking brake to be released when recovering the vehicle.
Activation
1 Press and hold the parking brake switch in the release position.
2 Wait 2 seconds.
3 Press and hold the accelerator pedal in the wide open throttle position.
4 Wait 2 seconds.
NOTE:
5 An audible noise will be heard to confirm that the parking brake has been released in Service Mode.
Turn the ignition Off and back On immediately.

6 Release the accelerator pedal and release the parking brake switch to the neutral position

Deactivation
CAUTIONS:
This procedure requires the vehicle in the Park or Neutral position, with the ignition turned ON (the engine
must be OFF) and the parking brake system in Service Mode.
Once the vehicle has been recovered, the Service Mode must be cancelled.
NOTES:
If this process is followed, new electronic park brake actuator O-ring seals are required.
To be carried out in the event that the vehicle has no electrical power. 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

On a shooting trip a while back, I had to be towed out (wet grass, adverse slope and road tyres…..). The front valance was removed, a rope attached to the towing eye and then attached to the gamekeeper’s Defender. Engine running in my car, left in neutral and pulled away. Once on level ground, engaged park, removed rope and proceeded normally (GGS engaged, low range just to be sure.).
