Thanks JayGee

Would you think this is simply brushing out the rust or including welding new parts of arches and sills?

No idea if it's surface rust or deeper from the pics. You would have to give it a good poke with a screwdriver to tell or get it expertly inspected. Maybe use it as a negotiating factor for a price reduction but as I said all UK L322's will have rust issues. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

I would really ask the seller if you can check behind the sills before buying. I bought a 2002 L322 back in March and last month had both sides welded due to the rust. I had known about 1 side as the rust was visible above the sill/on the arch but didn’t know it was as bad as it turned out to be. Didn’t know about the other side. See attached some pics of how bad it can be once you start poking. I would already be especially concerned about the picture which shows a little bit of rust above the sill, probably very bad under the sill.

If it turns out to be as bad as mine you won’t get away with sandblasting.

It’s possible to buy replacement arch panels. I have a pair in my unit that I aught to sell.

In France when you took it (or any car from UK) for an MoT equivalent and it went up on the ramp, the comment would be "un anglais" Very Happy

Last year I had mine done for rust. Started with new panels but ended with fabricating cills.

Ouch!
Today I at least got some idea of pricing which made sense. From few hundreds of € to €1-2K. Others have said €1K-€10K for this job.

Do you have any pictures of the severity of the rust?

Thanks for sharing this. I will ask the seller. The reason I reached out expressing interest to buy was on the basis of little to no rust.

How much did this set you back in €?

2,300 euros. That’s without adding new paint, just having a thick protective layer. So basically to get it through Dutch MOT and avoid it really rotting away so I can keep driving it.

Only visible when opening rear left door, and then only a bit of the wheel arch since most is behind the sills. Protective layer is black just as my paint color so hardly notice during daily use. Acceptable finish for me since the car is 21 years old with 280,000 km and it’s not really visible.

This is (relatively) cheap, I also had a quote from a company of 2000 ex VAT for just one side but then basically back to factory spec. That was way too much for me for this (still lovely) old beast.
