I don't consider 30 years old to be too old for a ship - I don't see why they are scrapping her personally. There has to be some use for her. Maybe she could go on pirate hunting duty or something.

No person in their right mind invests in old ships, the running costs are phenomenal, even buying new ships these days isn't something you do with your own money, you use somebody else's if you can.

She is hugely fuel inefficient as a 30 year old ship, the steel that the MOD builds from is very thin and she wil be literally rusting away and the aluminium bits will be oxidising too due to the insulation between the steel and Aluminium breaking down. She is laden with old technology. Best use for her is as reinforcing bar for tower blocks or recycled into razor blades or Ford Fiestas (possibly even Range Rovers). There was a proposal to make her a floating heliport on the Thames at Tower Bridge, but most of the folks that can afford to commute by Helicopter own flats at Chelsea Harbour and the likes so don't need a floating helipark bloating out their views of the river and the Tower. Not even India or Pakistan would want her as a cast off these days - they want modern hitech presents from us or they build them themselves.
I bet Cameron is now regretting having taken her out of service so soon though.

The Italians have an aircraft carrier named after a biscuit - we have a submarine named after a curly northern sausage........... 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

Perhaps I could convince the directors to buy her and turn her into a floating dealership, which could visit various ports around the country............

Then we could have Lookers Park Royal and Lookers Ark Royal!!!! Laughing
