Help with ECU no communication

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me pinpoint an issue with an L405.

Intermittently the engine will completely switch off while driving and the dash goes nuts lighting up like a Christmas tree everything goes into fault.

I've checked the grounds in the wheel arches and the ones in the engine bay (behind the air box and the ones up by the bulkhead ) as well as the strap that goes on to the transfer/gearbox

As I'm not as familiar with these would someone be willing to help me work threw this

I would like to add this is low milage 60k and when I checked the earth points even though they looked OK (no sign of corruption at all) I still removed them cleaned them and refitted them regardless, and both batteries have been replaced as they were testing bad

There is a flash/burn mark on the posertive battery connector from where its been jump started

I will put the dish scan data below

Its a pain its so intermittent when im checking powers grounds and scoping the fault does not happen to see it only appears to happen while driving

Many thanks

That’s an awful lot of ‘lost communications’ … way more than I would expect see if there had been a battery fail or low voltage

Which to me would have me looking at the systems the various ecu talk to each other. For example are the connectors fully home on the control units , that sort of thing.

Does the engine falter and die, or does it instantly cut out and everything on the dash go mental? V8 or else ...

The codes with a U in front are all simple battery low voltage so can be dismissed...
Anything with a B or P code can be treated as an issue to further investigate sir... Thumbs Up

The engine idle is perfect and it drives perfectly until the fault happens. Then the engine will just cut out when that happens the dash lights up like a Christmas tree. but it will restart no problem with all the no comms fault codes set.

Both batteries are brand new and they are charging fine on the car. the voltage is spot on when the fault happens.

All plugs are good and I've gone threw as much of the wiring as I can without pulling the car apart.

It's definitely an odd one

Does anyone have a pinout for the ECU and where the power feeds come from?

The only thing I can think of is the power to the ECU is dropping just for a second and coming back hens all the no comms fault codes with the ECU ( Possibly faulty relay )

Failing that only other thing i can assume is an intermittant inturnal fault with the ECU whitch is possible with the evedence of flash / burn mark on the battery ternamal

whats your thoughts on this

ECU pinouts will be in the Workshop Manual that you can download from the WIKI, link top right of this page under fullfatrr.com..... Thumbs Up

Please let us know when you have sorted it.... Bow down Pete

Main fault Turned out to be a dodgy relay for ECU that functioned most of the time but dropped out occasionally.. swapped relays for ECU out and all good now on the major faults as above so don't necessarily trust a relay that appears to be good on test… Range Rover Vogue Td6 2006-2010 (Java Black)

How did you identify that the relay was dodgy?

That's completely the wrong advice.
U codes are completely relevant in most cases - especially ones where the vehicle is running at the time, as is the case with this one. They can be discounted in some cases where there are supporting DTC's indicating low voltage, again not the case here.
The fact that several modules are reporting 'lost communication with ECM' but no 'ECM lost communication with...' Indicates that the ECM suffered a non-graceful power down, as the OP found out, with the defective relay. In cases like this, U codes are key to correctly diagnosing the concern, not by the DTC's that are logged, but by the ones that are not.
If, for example, the bus wiring was defective or there was poor pingrip, then the ECM would have lots of U codes stored as it would still be powered and logging faults.
