If you want to waste a few hours, swear a lot and then have to replace it with a decent one once you find it's leaking because of a spot of grease stopped the glue bonding, then fill yer boots.
Never used them myself but I've seen the less than optimal results you can achieve with them.

I've never seen those last very long on any vehicle I've owned. Its a good idea on paper, but in practice its terrible.

We only ever use the JLR ones but, then you have to try and get your drive shaft out of the hub... And that aint easy at the best of time!

I don’t have a ton of tools either, and for £10/15 , if it lasts only a year, no big dead.

Will probably struggle with the size so was wondering if anyone had successfully done this and what they used.

Personally I wouldn’t scrimp and save for maintenance and repairs on mine, look after them and they’ll look after you.

I have used both Hippo Red and Bailcast.

Hippo Red look better with the substantial seam but the seam rubs and wears through the boot.

The large Bailcast one (CVS18) does work but I have found it impossible to get them to fully seal so you always get a small amount of grease forced out of the joint due to centrifugal force. I doubt that any water gets in. Having said that they do work and it is lot less work that trying to get the driveshaft out.

To fit

Break the steering ball joint to give you more access.

Completely degrease the CV shaft and area with carb cleaner or something similar.

The small end is a bit too small so you have to try to stretch and clamp it to the driveshaft so you can glue it. Then glue the rest of the boot.

When dry turn the large end inside out add new grease inside the boot fold the boot back over the large end over the CV joint with a smear of super glue and add the fastening strap.

If they made a larger one it would be easy.

Before you complain I did it properly first time and it was a complete nightmare getting the driveshaft out. Fitted the correct GKN Boot. The large end kept coming off no matter how tight I fitted the clip. I decided the original boots are rubbish so thought I would try the split boots until I have major suspension work to do. They have been on for two years now.
