Thanks @mjdronfield. I can see you’re going to be a handy guy to have around. Thumbs Up

Which app tool did you use for the MOT info? The DVLA site isn’t as user friendly as the one you’ve used.

What are your thoughts on the MOT history?

Currently looks like all advisories have been done.

Going to phone the dealer tomorrow to hopefully make an appointment for next weekend.

Is there anything that can be done if the inner wheel arches and tailgate have started to rust?

Thanks for everybody’s help on this. For some reason buying an L322 feels like a big commitment. Like standing on a high diving board ready to take the final leap!

It’s Vehicle Smart

I’d only use the MOT info as an idea if it’s been looked after, though anything on them should have been done. Mine failed on rear brake pipes and a rear shock at different points, you can’t really skip doing what’s needed.

It’s just the normal bodywork stuff with the rust, need a good bodyshop or get stuck in yourself. The later the L322 the more recycled steel was used it seems.

L405, at present, doesn’t do it for me, although I have seen some colours that really suit the L405.
There’s nothing out there that does it for me to be honest.
The L322 is such a classic shape & wallows in her own self importance that she’ll be with me for a while.
If I changed, then it’s wallet open wide to keep up with maintenance & preventative maintenance to get her o the level I am at the moment 🤣

Good luck with the search, one will be along soon.

Just out of interest, how many miles are on the clock and what trim level?

I know you're not selling, I'm just curious.

Westminster spec which I believe is the last spec they made for these L322’s before the new L405 came in. Heated & cooled seats front & rear, different wheels etc etc. now sitting on 105k miles & loving it! 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

Keep another car as backup if you depend on having a reliable car 24/7 for work/ family. These cars are all now old and potentially unreliable due to their complexity so keep at least 25% of you total budget in reserve as a contingency fee and make friends with a local specialist you can trust to sort out any repairs. These cars are cheap to buy but the expensive part is running them so do your sums carefully. Don't rush into buying one and drive as many as you can to get a feel for them. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Yes, I’d second that especially if you commute. Sometimes a fatty can throw a fault code and you just need something else to jump into to keep your day on track. @JayGee is right; complex stuff just gets a little more unreliable with age and you’re buying more than just a car, you’re buying a fairly complex piece of machinery.

Been there, done that, not going back but I had to get it out of my system (twice), LOL.

Do you have any regrets or are you glad you had the experience?

It had to be done. The guys on here kind of warned me off at the start but then when they realised I had to have one were very helpful. I'm glad I had the 322 and I'm glad it's now over, out of my system etc. Definitely no regrets, there something magical about the L322, with 2 tonne caravan on the doing 60 mph uphill showing 1100 rpm, how does it do that? BMW i3 Electric Car

I only have one regret about buying an L322 - I should have bought one 5 years earlier! 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)
