Front and rear camera hack for dashcam footage?

Has anyone tried accessing the video streams from the cameras for dashcam footage? My 2020 L405 Autobiography has the four camera system.
I'm thinking of linking a Raspberry Pi to the video system to record the video streams form the front and rear. The video footage would be recorded on the memory card of the Pi.
Issues that I can see:
1. where to connect to the system to access the video stream
2. programming the Pi to record the data
3. where to put the Pi, so that you can access the memory card easily - or enable some form of communication with my phone for video access.
Or am I just blowing smoke?

Is it a video stream you can copy ?

Edit: I see its a 2020 model, so the following is unlikely to apply as I was reading up about my 2015 model cameras.

As I understand it, each of the cameras feed their signal digitally to a selector/converter module, which in turn converts the signals into PAL/NTSC format to send on to the centre display.

So the head unit tells the module which signal it wants, and the module will then take the feed from the relevant camera and pass it on. And i guess it’s possible that the module will only send on a signal when it’s asked to as well … so when you’re in drive and going forward it may well not send any signals from the rear.

That them leaves intercepting the signals from the cameras before they reach the module. I did read this recently, but forgotten already, but basically I *think* they are fairly standard cameras and data format of video signal. No whether that data format can translate to an easily saved file is a different story. V8 or else ...

Thanks for the information Fisha. I didn't think it would be easy. Suppose I'll just fit the dashcam my kids bought me for my birthday. Smile

The part number for a JLR Dashcam is VPLKV0134 however, this one I believe is the PN for the Defender model…

As far as I’m aware, all JLR Dashcam are the same fitment… But I could be wrong? And have been several times Whistle Embarassed

This is the unit I fitted to my L405 and it fits LWB & SWB 405’s perfectly… All JLR vehicles have the same power plug for the front interior light unit and that’s where you link the pass through lead provided in this kit… Thumbs Up

Your very welcome sir…

In fairness, it’s quite easy and straightforward! Just time consuming running the rear camer wiring that’s all…

Good luck 👍
