Secondary battery

Evening All,

Looking to add a secondary battery to the car after the last time I broke down leaving me stranded 4 hours from home. Are people using the luxury land rover kits or making their own. Also is there a way to wire it in so that it assists with the start up as I've read that this isn't possible?

What was the nature of the breakdown that cause the main battery to fail as you could just get a starter battery pack from the likes of Noco? 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Left the car for a few hours and when I came back it was complety dead with just a clicking when trying to turn over. Wouldn't jump of a booster pack either but fire up straight away when I replaced the battery. I did receive some answers on here about it being an issue with the starter that can be bypassed with some DIY wiring but it's never had a problem starting up until then and hasn't had one since the new battery has been fitted.

From my own experience of trying to purchase a 2nd battery kit from LLR it took literally months (after payment on day1) for a kit to arrive - I went for the kit without battery - and it was short of the inline fuse that it was supposed to have and is shown in the kit. Not being in any way savvy with electrics I wasn’t comfortable with my own DIY attempts. After contacting LLR for a replacement i got no reply after several attempts and eventually went public on here to potentially make others aware. Censored
Just my tuppence… Cheers, Steven.

No nothing now for a few months but it's a bigger battery than the original and it's made me a bit wary of doing big trips incase it happens again. The battery that was on there was also only a few months old.

Was the battery you replaced the correct type ( AGM) ? I fitted a new one 2 years ago and have never had a problem even when regularly leaving the car for weeks between use.I have the Noco as backup but have never needed it. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

@OP.

There are lots of "how to's" on here. Several have done their own. Do a search for battery and second. there's also a guide in the wiki.

I’ll second the comments wrt LLR; I bought a very expensive reversing camera upgrade as I was short of time for doing one myself. When it came it was mis-wired and I had to redo it myself anyway. TDV8 4.4 2012

I fitted a second auxilary battery, Second battery in boot supports all systems when ignition off, main starting battery for starting/running isolated when ignition off, reconnects when ignition on via a 200amp relay, original heavy duty cable direct to starter still in place, only the system connection isolated, so ZERO drain on main starting battery, both charge with split charging wiring when running, and 13.9 lovely volts. Fitted a digital voltmeter in place of analogue clock, which I've kept, as android head unit has Internet time aligned display in any case.. Second battery connected with an 80amp resettable trip in-line to protect vehicle loom...

JoshVogue94, Just do it yourself, no need for overpriced kits. The space in the rear RHS under the fuse box is perfect. In the bottom is a protruding bolt, cut that flush. The loom can lift up and over the fuse box to ensure no rubbing. Earth wire is simple, Positive needs a 100ah resetting fuse and a voltage sensing relay. A bit of decent sized wire and connect it to the Poss on the fuse box.
When looking for a voltage sensing relay, try and find one with an override switch, you can then start the car in an emergency. https://www.kickassproducts.com.au/Battery..._wcB 2007 TDV8 VSE
