Hi all

I have read many posts where you guys in the UK have access to some great people who come around to your house and do a mega flush on site which is amazing. Unfortunately where I am this isnt an option. Im a big fan of if I can do it myself and buy the tools then I have it for years. So, looking online I was surprised at how cheap the machines are to flush the transmission.

So my question is, have any of you noticed the brand your person uses? Have any of you bought one?

Below is a link to a random one on ebay but there are loads of them out there. I wonder how good or bad these are? They seem to range from €400 to €1200

I seem to recall that most machines can do 6 speed boxes but there's something about the 8 speed that requires some specific feature on the machine. This was from D3/D4 world so may not apply. You could ask on the Discovery forum. Someone there would know. 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

Sykes-Pickavant, Fortron hybrid DCT/CVT flush machine is what was used for my 6 speed and i believe they did 8 speeds at the same visit. Hunt for a L405 is on.

I wouldn't trust a cheap box hooked up to an auto tranny . Wrong pressures etc and you could be facing a very expensive bill. The 8spd is pretty robust and trouble free so just do a normal service which is a fairly easy DIY job - sump and fluid. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

This was my thought too, that said many of us use cheaper equipment to sometimes do jobs and it usually works out. I'm just one of those people who like to have the tools at hand for the jobs. I do building, plumbing, IT, mechanic, welding etc so the fact that I dont have a man in a van to call this just made me curious. Current yokes

You need a machine that matches not just the pressure, but also the oil flow out of the gearbox

Without this, the pressure and flow back into the gearbox are unregulated, this is when damage is likely to occur

EDIT: Found a picture of my machine at the beginning of a flush. You'll notice that the incoming pressure is ever so slightly lower than the incoming pressure. It's this extra level of control that is needed to prevent anything untoward happening

Probably why ZF don't advise 'flushing' as doing it wrong will cause damage. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

ZF do advise flushing, but refer to it as a transmission rinse
