Boot Lid slam

Hi guys

Just looking for your info/opinion. I'm based in Ireland so I have no one near me in the club to check this with so hence the post. I have a Disco 3 and when you close the top part its relatively soft and gentle. When I close the 2012 L322 top boot lid even when I do it gently it really slams and is quite a loud bang.

Is this the same on all L322's or is it a sign the gas struts need changing? I just find it strange that the more expensive car has the worst feeling boot lid compared to the much older disco.

Thanks Current yokes

I’d say that’s about normal. Not entirely sure new struts would help that much. I tend to hold mine and then let it close under its own weight for the last few inches.

Weak struts tend to not hold the tailgate in the open position, but if you fit new ones and it closes in a more fitting manner, let me know…..

Thanks mjdronfield

I do the exact same as you, let it close itself a few inches up. It sounds like it is just how these doors close alright. Current yokes

worst part is noise from reg plate. When you remove it then you will be suprised how silent this slam is.

Hi,

Same here, lower it by hand to the last 2 or 3 inches and let it fall under it's own weight.

Nice mechanical thud, I used to have an Audi and I was never confident the soft close had actually secured the lid, had visions of it opening at speed and the contents, including dog, spilling all over the motorway.

I prefer the mechanical touch, although I wouldn't let it drop from full height for fear of shattering the glass.

I replaced the struts on mine not long ago.
No apparent change in the sound when closing - it's still a bit of a 'clang'.
And indeed my erstwhile TD6 was much the same.

Think you will find the L322 from 2011 has laminated glass all round so it won't shatter...just crack.... Thumbs Up Pete

Got mine from Powerful UK.
Very happy with them - marked improvement over the aged originals.
