gear changes

hi guys a bit of help please
my gear changes are been harsh ,oil chance been changed twice in the last year so more of a mega change ,tq has been replaced .....could it be the solenoids on there way out or something else ? 2008 3.6 tdv8 range rover Vogue Stornoway grey - Parchment Leather

Definitely worth reading the solenoid adaption values, if you have suitable diagnostic equipment, to see if any are extreme (i.e. >300mbar) as this would give you an indication if any solenoids were faulty. Failing that, you could just risk going ahead with a new solenoid set (ZF p/n 1068 298 044) which costs around £280 : https://www.sussexautos.com/products/6hp19...68-298-044, especially if they’ve never been replaced before.

hi yea i have the gap tool ....will i find the reading in the live data(fairly new to range rover/gap tool world) and would you suggest getting gearbox upto temp ? 2008 3.6 tdv8 range rover Vogue Stornoway grey - Parchment Leather

The gearbox temperature doesn’t matter because the adaption values are determined over a long period of time. I don’t own an IIDTool or a Range Rover (any longer) so others would be better placed to tell you how to drill down through the menus to find this data.

Unfortunately, the quality of the information is a bit hit-and-miss, sometimes yielding ridiculous values. Basically, you’re looking for the:

1) clutch fill/charge pressures (in mbar)

and

2) rapid fill/charge times (in ms)

for the five clutches A, B, C, D & E.

It would appear that the adaption values for the ZF 6HP28 transmission, used in the 5.0 litre, are simply not possible to read, but as yours is the 6HP26 transmission you at least have a chance. I’m not suggesting that this is an issue with the IIDTool, more likely a Land Rover issue, as diagnostic tools can only report the values that are provided by the controller.

No, those are the live values for the solenoid currents. You want ‘transmission fluid filling pressure for adaptions’ and ‘transmission fluid filling time for adaptions’

The latter. Adaptive Shift Strategy allows the transmission controller to talk to other vehicle systems to determine the way in which the vehicle is been driven. This is forgotten when the ignition is turned off. The solenoid adaptions are calculated/accumulated over the lifetime of the vehicle (i.e. over a period of years) where the controller tweaks the solenoid currents to maintain shift times and quality, to take account of gradual wear in the system. These adaption values should not therefore be randomly reset unless a major change has taken place e.g. new solenoids, new firmware, etc. and certainly not just because the fluid has been changed.
