Can't get into the car

I have gone to get into my car today but the remote didn't do anything. I tried the second one and it was the same. Everything was fine yesterday. I assume battery has drained 'over night'.

My problem is there doesn't appear to be a lock mechanism in the door handles. There is no slot under the plastic covers to prise them off, I removed the covers on both sides with some trim tools to reveal what looks like another cover underneath. Again no slots anywhere to prise them off. These covers move but do not want to prise off. I don't know what is underneath them or if the are attached from inside the handle.

Is there any known models that do not have a keyhole on one side or the other?

I'm currently stuck with no access to the inside of the car.

I will probably attempt a few of the suggestions I've read in the forum/wiki tomorrow but any thoughts, suggestions welcome.

Thx Roy

It doesn't have a couple of those stick on after market covers on them does it? I see a lot of people selling them. I would think it highly unusual that a RR wouldnt have key access.

What year/model is it? Current yokes

Yes, unfortunately there is no hole under the covers, not even a lock symbol on the face of them.

Thx

What colour are your door handles? Black? Maybe got covers on as mentioned above?

You may need to get the battery charged somehow…. Tow bar electrics?

You might be right about after market. The top covers, black, are attached with thin foam tape, but there still isn't a prise hole underneath. I'm reluctant to break off the under covers if there isn't anything underneath.

2010 5.0SC.

It's never had a tow bar fitted.

Thx

Hi Redtail

Definitely sounds like someone used a set of stick on handle covers so. I would be ripping it off as they are only stuck on with double sided tape. And if it is something where you really liked the look of them they are easily replaced from the below site

https://www.powerfuluk.com/products/door-h...atin-black

Hope you get into it and charge it sooner rather than later as a completely flat battery has a limited time for recovery. Current yokes

Thanks people.

Managed to use a bit of force with a couple of screwdrivers and the internal cover on the passenger side came off. There is a keyhole underneath. Third party handle covers I assume double sided foam taped on with no lever hole.

Car now open, battery showing 3V. I've replaced the battery and will put the 2 year old one on charge/test to see if it has a problem. Although there doesn't seem to be a drain when everything is locked up I will need to keep an eye on it over the next few days.

Thx
Roy

Great news!

My L322 has no phantom drain that I am aware of but if she isn't on trickle charge even with a new battery with all the electrics and cameras and buzzing and whirling it would go low in a week if I left it unsupervised!

Hopefully yours will be good and glad ye are back being friends Very Happy Current yokes

That’s good then. I know some folk have hid a battery connector somewhere that you can get to and connect a charger to. I have tow electrics so I can use that. Some have fitted solar chargers but you have to make sure the Aux sockets stay live when the car goes to sleep. Early cars did but later ones didn’t…..

The tow electrics charging point sounds like a great option to me. Does this work on all Tow systems? I have a 2012 with the factory connector in the spare wheel area and have found the JLR cable to go from there to the tow hitch, will I be able to charge from that in time? Current yokes

I believe so, you just need the positive and negative feeds that go to the battery. I’m not a towing electrics expert but I can’t see why you couldn’t fit a towing 13 pin or is it a 7 pin? socket to your car even if you don’t have an actual tow bar. If you have tow electrics already you can make up a socket to connect to the correct pins and goes to a trickle charger. You used to be able to buy one from the site shop, on the Disco 3 bit, but I don’t think they are available now for some reason. I have a CTEK charger that I connect to via this method.

This is my system.

As an alternative to buying a ready made connector like in the previous post it is straightforward to buy a 13 pin connector, if that is your type of tow socket, and wire it up yourself. This allows you to make the cable as long as required.

Typically I have over complicated my set up! - CTEK charger fed through a Tapo smart plug. Then through the garage wall to an external marine 2 pin socket. Then the cable plugged in to the car.

Ignore the heavy yellow cable - charging the EV as finally we have some sun.
