Hi, I have some touch up work that I need doing on my fatty, scuff on bumper and stone chips on the bonnet but everywhere I go tries to rip me off.

Now I'm no paint specialist but I do know to repair stone chips or a bumper scuff you don't need to paint the ajoining panels and respray half the car for £500. I'd do it myself, but I don't have a garage to keep out of the weather while I do it.

So I'm looking for a decent painter who'll do what I ask, small jobs, for a reasonable price in my area. All the main companies just want to rip me off.

Anyone know of anyone in Gloucester / Cheltenham that I can trust, cash ?

It is a good idea and they can do some great things...but I think you'll find its £500. If you can get half the car done for that then you should bite their hand off. Mike - MPx

If you are not in a rush then there is a guy called Mark Banstead based at Murcot turn near Broadway.
He is always busy, have used him for the fatty, SWMBO's Volvo and about to do some touch up on my Conti GTC.

I'e got it booked in at Chips Away in Hempsted, small outfit, for next Tuesday, £170 +vat for 1/2 front bumper scuff repair & repaint and 1/4 bonnet leading edge chips invisible repair. Will need the car for 1/2 day.

I'll report back on how it goes, seems like a down to earth guy. Would have done it tomorrow as he had a cencellation but I need the car.

Please think long and hard as to what you will accept long term... Chips away use things like cellulose paint so they can polish it out half way through a panel... If you've seen any 1970's paint repaires lately? They usually go flat within months and can significantly reduce the value of a car longterm sir...

Decent paint finishers usually charge £350 per panel...

You get what you pay for...

Hi, yes, agreed, thanks for the tip.

I was in half a mind to leave as it is, the car's not perfect by any means and a few scratches sort of add to the character of the car.

Saying that, now I've decided to fork out the cash for those bits I'll keep an eye on it as the guy said it was repainted badly before, the tell tale being the litttle rings around the parking sensors should not be painted apparently. So he's right in that regard. Looking at the panel I'd never have noticed had he not mentioned it.

It's a working car so it'll happen again I'm sure, but I'll watch the finish, see if it deteriorates at all.

Yes the PDC rings should either be clear or black rubber and certainly not painted… Be interesting to see if he just paints over them again this time… 👍

Hi, just by way of an update, £420 inc VAT all in to have the front bumper resprayed, the OS castle on the bonnet stone chip rash fixed and the driver's door lower 3/4 resprayed in Fuji White by Chips Away in Gloucester and I only had to wait a few days to get it booked in.

Looks like a grand job, I can't tell where it's been done under the workshop lights, save the damage area is now perfect but my eyesights not the best so who knows, will keep an eye on it to see if my worst fears come to light, i.e. it'll go off in 6 months time.

Would I recommend them ? Don't know. On the plus side, little waiting, seems like a good job, very friendly guys there, no visible overspray so far, very fair pricing. Ask me again in 6 months time for any negatives can't think of any right now save it's been pi*****g down with rain so nothing to see really.

I did take pics, but it's white so nothing to see except white.
