Rear calliper piston, to wind or push back?

Hi all, quick question, I am about to continue with my all round disc and pad replacement and am now moving onto the rear. I have a question, after putting the EPB into service mode is it then necessary to wind the brake piston back or can I just go ahead and use my compressing tool to push the piston the rest of the way back?
