Changing the wheels / Air Suspension

I remember in the 80s my friend had a Citroen with air suspension. For wheel change he moved up the car in the max upper position and put the jack unter the chassis. Then he moved the air suspension to the lowest position and the wheel was free.

Can I try this with my RR or is there a risk to destroy something on the suspension ?

there's no need to set the suspension at any particular height. Before you start the jack the car up, open (and leave open) a door or the rear tail. It will stop the suspension moving as a safety measure.

I've always jacked the vehicle up to do any necessary work and once done, sit in the car, lower it to access mode (it will ask you to confirm the suspension height required anyway), and then cycle through the heights to 'Normal', 'Off Road' and then back to 'Normal' again, so the system knows its been able to achieve the requested height on all 4 wheels. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

I've never tried it but......The articulation on a FFRR is a bit longer than that of an old Citroen - even if you did raise the height to max & put blocks under there and then lowered it, I'd expect the wheel to stay exactly where it is.

Apparently it doesn't work because Citroens used hydraulics and sealed spheres and the RR uses pneumatics and Air bags.

Unlike the spheres, the airbags cannot support a negative pressure and simply collapse so there is no counter / vacuum force to offset the weight of the suspension.

So I've been told, but hey, go for it, see what happens, I'm too worried about damaging mine to have a go myself. Fuji White 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westmiinster
