I'm wondering if anyone else on this forum has experience with this option on the L460.

On our old L405 there was a little 'key fob' which, when pressed, started the fuel burning Auxiliary Heater under the bonnet and 15-20 minutes later the interior of the car was toasty warm (along with defrosted windscreen, etc.). Which meant getting in the car on a cold morning didn't require a duvet jacket for the first 5 miles.

As a result I paid the significant amount for this option on our new L460 only to find that it doesn't appear to warm the cabin even though the info on the website promises 'Your journey begins when you want it to and how you want it to. Pre-heat or pre-cool the cabin from your phone, without starting the engine or getting in the vehicle.' Apparently, according to the dealer, this option only pre-conditions the coolant in the engine so the car warms up fast once you set off. The iGuide seems to confirm this and doesn't talk about Pre-Conditioning at all apart from in the PHEV (which this option is available for).

Are there any owners out there who can confirm that the option only preconditions the engine or whether I've got a faulty auxiliary heater that needs sorting. The current list price of this option is £1275 (in the UK) and I can't imagine anyone spending that kind of cash if it doesn't directly warm the car.

I have the P550e, so no diesel heater but it has the Climate option in the Remote App which conditions the cabin and preheats it to 21.

I've used it a few times now. It did clear the ice from the screens, and the inside, I would describe it as "it took the chill off" rather than being "toasty," like my L405 would get from a 30-minute warm-up.

I've been meaning to read up on it, but the wife keeps finding alternative things for me to do, so also interested in hearing from others' experiences. 2024 P550e Autobiography

My experience:

I open the In-Control app on the phone. Press the remote icon on the bottom of the screen. Press the plus or minus button to adjust temp (second highest setting is 28 degrees, highest setting is "hi"), press the fan button on phone screen for a few seconds. P550e remotely starts the petrol engine from the app and car starts conditioning / heating.

As it starts the engine and not just a heater you should only do it when the car is outside.

The doors remain locked and the lighting doesn't come on.

As soon as you get in the car the lights and dash come on and as you drive away the engine switches off and returns to EV mode.

Interesting.

I am using a Pixel phone.

The app for my wife Jaguar, has the + and - to adjust the target temperature.

I think I’ve just Worked it out.

Go to the top left where it says “climate”.

Click on it and a drop down box appears.

It gives you two options “engine climate” or “electric climate”.

If I were a betting man I’d wager mine was set to engine and yours was set to electric?

Pre heat should work on either of the options from the drop down list though shouldn't it?

On my '23 P530 non-hybrid it has Fuel Operated Heater option (no temperature selection) that heats the cabin with the engine off (and does a very good job of it) or the "Engine Climate" option that starts the engine and you can select the temperature.

If it doesn’t work on the electric side then your HV heater has failed. See my recent post about symptoms etc. My Previous RR's!

For me.

Preheat works in EV mode, but, there is no option to increase the preset temp of 21c. On a cold day, whilst this warms the cabin, I find 21c doesn't 'Butter the Parsnips'.

Preheating using ICE allows me to increase the temperature to a much more comfortable level.

So I think (hope), mine is working as intended and has not failed. Interestingly there isn't a water temp gauge on the L460, or at least I haven't found one.

Reading your other thread, out of interest, would the temp gauge, by staying low indicate the EV mode isn't heating the coolant as intended? 2024 P550e Autobiography

Thanks for that. Mine was set to electric. I have a PHEV but when trying the engine setting its telling me it can't work as the cable is connected & switch to electric climate. The cable is not connected???

The OP is asking about the Fuel Operated Heater (FBH).

I have a FBH fitted and it works fine. On previous models, not heating sufficiently was due to a lack of battery power and the FBH stopped heating before the normal 30 mins maximum. MY23 D350 HSE

Thanks to everyone for their contributions on this subject.
Recent use of the Cabin Pre-Conditioning feature suggests that it does appear to be working slightly better albeit not as well as our old L405. Maybe the latest software update (OS 4.2.1) has improved its operation as it appears to make some changes to the AC system.
