Police recently warned me about a similar situation in my area regarding l322s being stolen and broken up to sell as parts ! They suggested I fit a steering wheel lock ( Krookloc ? ) as the thieves really want to take as little time as possible during the attempt to nick your car.

Steering wheel lock now fitted, £50 Halfords.  RR owner

The latest trick is this, be very aware.

Are there other recent instances? Because in that example the thieves weren't successful, except in causing damage to the car.

It looks like they were trying to tap into the CAN bus to disable the alarm/immobiliser, then activate a new key. Similar to the method used on Range Rover Sports, where a hole is cut in the tailgate to access the system, and on some Lexus cars where they access it behind a headlight.

That said, I understand the security updates that Land Rover has rolled out over the past 18 months address this vulnerability. Hopefully, those updates are robust enough to prevent thieves from finding new workarounds!

Most Land Rover cars where I live (including me) use a steering lock. It's a pain quite frankly, but if it means they just move onto another car without one, then it works for me.

The fact that insurance costs have come down suggested to me that whatever fix JLR did, it may have worked? 2024 Range Rover P550e AB

They were apparently disturbed as was outside a Hotel in London, there have been others done apparently by this method.
