I was only asking in the event that they tried to claim the vehicle back, they aren't currently trying to retain the vehicle.

Irrespective of what they do, the Range Rover needs insurance.... check they are covering this as if it is damaged, stolen etc you might not get any money....  Pete

I'd imagine that as the car is in their care, it would be covered by the dealer insurance, if not it would be covered by my insurance but as I understand it, car's should usually be covered by the dealership if it's in their care.

I thought you said you had cancelled your insurance...?

If the fatty doesn't have it's own insurance it may not be covered by the dealers insurance...

It was a question based on if they wanted to retain the vehicle and whether I could try and claim back a months insurance for a car that's not even in my possession yet.

To be clear, I've paid for the car and have a sales invoice saying so but I've never actually had possession of the car. It's currently and has been insured for the last month and my question was, should I try and ask for the months payment as delivery has been deferred.

Thought I'd provide an update.

It's been 8 weeks since I purchased the car, I still don't have it in my possession as it's not officially been handed over to me yet (point to note, car has been paid off in full, no finance).

Car has been with a franchised Land Rover dealer, they've replaced entertainment screens, harness, rear entertainment slave module (or something similarly named) and still it's blowing the fuse.

Car is now back at the place I purchased it from, they are expecting an engineer from Land Rover HQ to inspect the car either today or Monday.

I've been told that this has cost them £0000s, workshop time was circa £140ph, replacement units have cost over £1500 and at this rate we're back at square 1.

I've been asked if I want my money back, unfortunately having looked around on Autotrader and other 4x4 car sites I'm not seeing anything similar for the same kind of price. The nearest car in spec is around the £55,000 poimt, £10k above what I've paid for the current car.

So far I've paid 2 months of insurance for a vehicle that's never been in my possession, I'm close to £41,000 out of pocket with nothing physical to show for it.

Dealership are doing their best but as this is a well spec'd car I'm loathe to get my money back and spend the next couple of months trying to find an alternative.

At the moment, there's no light at the end of the tunnel, I'm going to be in a position of not being able to drive for a couple of weeks from next Friday (medical procedure) so it's not really an issue as such (I also work from home and have the use of other cars).

It's frustrating but the car is too good to walk away from.

Personally I would not want a car that has a fault that could not be traced after 2 months!

I would insist on a full refund ASAP just in case the dealer is financial difficulties. Kevin

I agree with Epson Green, if they have not been able to figure this out after 2 months and have even fired the parts cannon at it I would be wanting my money back and running away. Maybe this was the reason it was priced as it was in the first place? Could well be a lemon car and I would be concerned at what else could be hiding even if/when they figure this issue out? _______________________________________________

Regardless of how invested in it you are, both emotionally and financially, I’m sorry to say that you need to walk away from this now before it becomes a very expensive mistake.

They may be thin on the ground in the “exact” spec you want but you will find another.

I know you just want the car you have bought as it was a great price. The issue is that your supplying dealer and more worryingly, a Land Rover dealer has unable to resolve the problems.

You own the vehicle so the dealer cannot force you to take a refund but the alternative may be that you accept the vehicle with problems knowing that your warranty may not cover the issues and if they do, dealers still may not be able to fix it.

Personally, I would take a refund and begin a new search. The alternative may be a troublesome ownership.

IMO, you paid way too much for a car that doesn’t work and just get your money back.

You could get your money back, run around in something cheap and keep an eye on it. Expensive RRs depreciate at a rate than can be calculated on a monthly basis (say £500/month for this value of car), so whilst they're fixing it, they're sitting with the depreciation.

Once it's all sorted - which they will have to do, as they now know about it, you can go back and decide if you still want it. Obviously with cash off to cover your lost time, insurance cost and the depreciation you've already suffered.

Nothing worse than getting all excited about a car and having to wait.
