I have to admit since March 2021 when I bought the car, this warranty has more than paid for itself for the first 3 years. But now the Gremlins have been exorcised

This last year nothing went wrong apart from last week, just had the oil cooler replaced and turbo feed rings, but to my horror had to pay £360 extra shortfall. labour time was the issue, they (Extended warranty people) have a set labour time (unrealistic obviously) Not recognising labour times for cleaning etc. For me thats not what Extende warranty is all about.

I am at the point of do I bank the monthly payments for a rainy day and not torture myself of the future fight if Sunroof drains rear its ugly head or mild steel pipes are slowly rusting away

Hi Kot, we have just decided to do the same with our MY2017 after 3 trouble-free years with a 3rd -party warranty. We paid for a 2-year warranty over 12 months & got a 3rd year “free”, so for the past 2 years have been putting away a few hundred per month into the fullfat kitty, so will continue the habit. Also decided to do all servicing and smaller jobs myself, and only use the indy for bigger jobs.
Changing oil/filter, crack test knuckles, and oil test every 6m/3000m, probs call Bodsy to arrange all fluids replaced soon. Thank God no roof drains or ACE pipes to worry about with the Vogue.

Steel pipes rusting, along with any other rust is NOT covered by extended warrantee...

Had mine over 2 years, and decided not to renew when I bought it, the warrantee would have cost £3,400 for two years, the only thing I have had to do was rusted ACE pipes, and a corroded heater pipe... If I'd had the warrantee they wouldn't have been covered anyway...

So I'm £3,400 up and another £142 a month to add to the pot...

Just can't see it makes sense to have one....  Pete

Yes guys, you have tipped the balance not that i needed much persuasion!

I am fortunate I can do most jobs myself, I only ever went to my local indie every year for MOT and the yearly service to validate the extended warranty. Now I can just worry about MOT only! and build up the kitty for bigger jobs I cant do. 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

Way back in 2017 when my extended warranty expired, I was faced with the same dilemma, to extend or gamble ?
My main deciding factor was the cost of the MD annual service and the fact that I actually enjoy doing it myself.
So I invested in the tools , oil syphon, torque wrench and 36mm socket, set of plastic ramps, and now 8 years later my “ rainy day “ pot is worth more than the car
If you are able and happy to look after the services yourself, with the backstop of an independent garage for the few jobs too big to tackle on the drive, it really is a no brainer .

Just for balance, my aftermarket warranty eventually covered £10,000 of the £12,000 bill on on a new engine for my RR Sport. They do occasionally work in your favour

A few years ago, I would have said without any doubt that if I were in your position, I'd swallow the expense and pay for a JLR extended warranty.

I had a JLR warranty on my 2015 L405 right up until I sold it in September 2024 when it had covered 65k miles. All was good up until around 2019/20 ish, I found warranty claims were no longer a simple affair. The dealer became more interested in obtaining pre-approved payment for their diagnostic fee.

After that, I experienced warranty claims getting rejected. Separate claims for a parking brake actuator, a control arm and faulty front camera were all rejected. Initially, a claim for a double cruciform steering joint was refused but was eventually paid.

I'd now say, from experience, keep a JLR warranty on your car for the first 5 years, then self-insure with a savings pot. 2024 P550e Autobiography

Seems there is a consensus here that at a certain age/mileage, warranty cost vs benefit starts to wane.

Like all insurance related products, the many will pay for the costs of the few.

Contemplating the purchase of a new ffrr at £150,000.00, you would imagine at that price level, that a 10-year warranty would be included if the manufacturer had any real faith in the quality and reliability of their product? But no.

Many “lesser” brands offer substantial free warranties these days, but it seems JLR have zero faith in their own product, it’s almost like a nod of acknowledgement of failure in what is supposed to be a “peerless” product. It could be a great product, given a tidal wave of attitude change throughout the company, shame board and senior management alike all have their heads firmly buried in the sand, lurch from one crisis to the next, engendering a culture of denial and cover-up.  V6 Vogue - “Less is More” - less to go wrong!

I had a third party warranty on my old Disco 4 purely to mitigate the crankshaft risk. It wasn’t cheap though and after using it for a few bits and bobs and enduring the excess and the admin faff, it certainly wasn’t worth the money overall. I’d agree with others.
