BMW X5

So, I recently rented a brand-new BMW X5 on a trip and gave it a proper workout across both alpine and desert terrain. And yes, it’s solid, it’s capable… but my God, it’s dull. Like eating plain porridge while wearing beige trousers. The moment I got back home and slid into my 11-year-old Full Fat Range Rover, I couldn’t help but grin. It was like being reunited with an old friend who actually has a personality.

United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Vogue SE SDV8 Siberian Silver

Must admit when I lived in Australia I purchased a Nissan Patrol. Did everything I needed and was really comfortable. But, it had no character at all. As soon as I could I returned to the LR Fold in a D3 V8. Lovely vehicle.

United Kingdom 2014 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Corris Grey

I got an X5 hybrid after my last Disco 4 commercial went back as the D5 commercial didn’t appear for 12-18 months following the cars launch. As it was a company car the BIK rate was substantially lower than either an X5 or D5 3L diesel. However that didn’t stop the Tax man from having my pants down and shafting me big time for what was the biggest pile of crap I’ve had.
Collected it brand new on the Friday and it was back in the dealers on the Saturday!
Broke down on the motorway 4 times the following 12 months which was surprising as it must have been in the dealers go at least 6 of them. Mind you the M4 I had on loan briefly was fun Very Happy
After 18 months we got shut and got the 1st D5 commercial followed by another 3.5 years later.
No bother apart from an oil pump going on a D4 that had 120k miles in 3 years 2022 Discovery 5 HSE R-Dynamic D300 Commercial Yulong White
