For a few weeks now, every other day I started getting messages about the rear child security lock failure. Usually they would disappear after stopping and locking the car. Then yesterday both center screens went black and rebooted and this happened for half an hour after which it stopped and functioned for the rest of the trip. The lock error appeared intermittently in the dashboard. The IIDTool today showed the following errors that were all cleared:

Quick update: As the only repair I've ever undertaken on the car was on the rear right door, I removed the door card, cleaned all the connectors using contact cleaner, and reattached them. Especially the ones leading to the lock module. Since completing this intervention, the error hasn't reappeared.

I spoke too soon. Today, the rear child security failure message appeared again, bringing back the usual issues—central screens restarting and turn signals not producing their typical clicking sounds. Upon reaching my destination, I disconnected the connectors from the module on the door card, but the errors remained, even as I drove around for a while with the connectors unplugged. Later, when I tried to lock the car, it proved impossible. I left it unlocked for a few minutes, and when I returned, pressing the remote triggered the alarm. The only way to silence it was by sticking the key the slot by the steering wheel. When attempting to start the car, I encountered a steering lock message multiple times before finally getting it to start.

Removing the rear left door card and disconnecting the connectors had no effect on the rebooting screens or the lock error. It seems like it’s time to visit the dealer... |

The visit to the dealer temporarily resolved the errors, as he somehow cleared more than I could with the IIDTool. However, the release documents mentioned that another visit would be required, for the removal of the front seats and door sills to check the connections. The car worked flawlessly for two weeks before the errors started to reappear... This time, it was even worse—the steering column lock wouldn’t release. I gave up using the car for a day because I couldn’t unlock the steering column! However, the next day, it worked flawlessly and has continued to do so for a week now. I will start by checking the ground points, as no errors are showing on the IIDTool this time... |
