Brakes Won't Release After Parking | |
2018 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8.
After being parked with ignition off & electronic handbrake activated I fired up the ignition but was unable to set off, neither forwards or reverse. The brakes would not release and "AEB unavailable" lit up on the display. I assumed a handbrake failing to release issue, and having to move, I powered the car into the road hoping for the handbrake to release where the car then decided it was not moving any further. I was then awarded a full screen of fault warning including red and amber brake warning lights, stability control unavailable amongst others. My car was now blocking the exit to a public car park and, together with parked cars, the roadway. It was quite a scene. I tried the trusted switch it off, pause and switch it back on again to no avail. After some rapid Googling by myself and a collection of other trapped motorists I was able to switch off the AEB (autonomous emergency braking) and move the car gently out of the way.
I was able to limp home with erratic auto gear changes, random ride height selections, and without the mental and physical comfort I had become accustomed to. Gone was precise steering, smooth acceleration, predictable gear changes and the 'magic carpet' air suspension ride.
I returned my car to its garage, switched it off, and climbed out of it at normal ride height, poured myself a stiff one and checked my bank balance, as well as the sofa slush fund.
All other entries relating to AEB point to dirty cameras and so I checked mine and all were clean as it had been recently washed.
I left the car for twenty minutes or so, returned to it and there's no sign of an issue. All is fine, no warning lights, as good as new, apart from the fact that I am unable to visit my town centre for some time to come.
Has anyone else had a similar issue with autonomous brakes activating whilst stationary? 2018 RR SDV8 Autobiography
