Replace inside mirror

I found a used inside mirror with Homelink garage door opener. I made sure I purchased the correct one for my 2015 car only to find out that my car was upgraded to the newer sliding mirror fitting. Don't know what year they changed but think it was with the facelift. I assume it was changed when there was a new windscreen fitted last year.

So, now I need to move the new mirror from the old fitting the new one. Did anyone try that? The actual mirror is very tight on the fitting ball and I don't want to break anything.
