Dashcams advise please !

Hello , I'm considering a dashcam for my L460. Can any members with experience of dashcams please advise !

1 are they worth the money

2 I'm considering a Blackvue (maybe £500/£600 not sure if fitting is on top of that ?

3 is it worth getting front AND back cams or just front

finally any recommendations , many thanks

2011 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Stornoway Grey

Had a small accident a few weeks ago
Immediately pointed at dash cam when we got out of vehicles
Said I wasn’t going to argue…it was all on camera

Avoids any case of his / her word against you word
And any “witnesses” that happen to appear out of nowhere
And any passengers in the other car all clutching their necks complaining of whip lash

I think Range Rover now do dash cams for your L460

I fitted a Thinkware U3000 for my L322
Lovely cameras
Terrible app
But it does the job

I've got the LR dashcams in my 2021 car and they are very good with an easy to use app. All LR cars from 1984

I spoke to my dealer about the LR set up and he said if he was being honest it was not great and most of the less expensive camera units we better such as Nextbase etc.

I had a Nextbase unit and the plug in lead from Powerfuluk from my Defender but the l460 light unit where the cable plugs into and then comes out of the front of the headlining is all boxed in so there was no where for the excess cables to sit Big Cry

Have now had to use the Nextbase cable from the fusebox and had a chap fit it for me Crying or Very sad "UNDERSTEER" ----is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.

I have the LR dashcam fitted on my L460 and it works fine. I don’t intend to post anything to YT so the quality versus others is not an issue. I only intend to use the footage if there is an accident or similar.

The LR dashcam continues to operate when the RR is locked which is useful for car park incidents. It picks up motion and records a clip. I assume the LR cam switches off if the RR goes to sleep. Either way, it doesn’t drain the battery as my RR is sometimes left for a couple of months and still starts first time.

I have had BlackVue dashcams fitted to L405’s and fitted one myself (the details are on this forum). The issue with BlackVue cams is that they tend to drain the battery when left on while parked. There are a couple of add on’s that either monitor the battery level and switch the cam off the voltage drops below a predetermined level, or there is an expensive additional battery pack option.

If you want a cheap easy to fit option, then I’ve fitted Garmin Mini 2 cams to front/rear of several cars and they work well. Plus they’re small.

My recommendation would be the LR dashcam because it’s hassle free and does everything you need a cam to do. MY23 D350 HSE

The Nextbase also records when the car is in sleep mode and is only activated in the same way as the LR camera if set up in that way so will not drain the battery.

It’s also a great deal less to buy, has better pic quality and easy to remove from the mount unlike the LR unit.

Oh and you can have a F&R camera set up Thumbs Up "UNDERSTEER" ----is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.

I also have the LR dash cam fitted to my l405, fits perfectly with the car and works fine, been in over two years now. Was a god send when some muppet ran into the side of me, their insurance tried to blame me but the dash cam footage proved otherwise. Thumbs Up
