Just sorted insurance out over the past couple of days and like others found that Hastings were offering the best prices. However, I was rather taken aback with the 3 restrictions that Hastings were putting on the car in order to take out a policy.
First was that the car had to be on the driveway between the hours of 10pm and 6am when the car was parked at home. The second was to keep a steering lock fitted on the car when it is parked for any duration. And third that the car is fitted with a S5 tracking device that has automatic driver recognition, has an active subscription, and is linked to a 24/7 control room. If these 3 requirements were not met, then I wouldn't be covered for theft or damage in an attempted theft.
The car already has a tracker, but the S5 tracker requirement was a bit of a shock as the price for installing one is typically about £449 and the subscription is an extra £155/year.
Land Rover Insurance said they were unable to provide a quote, nor could Adrian Flux Insurance.
I finally went with Tesco Insurance for £750.
I wouldn't mind but we live in a detached house with a drive on the edge of a sleepy Cheshire town. I'm 60 have full NCB, do 10k/year, no points/convictions and never had an accident or a claim. The car has many of the things needed to reduce the risk of theft including the JLR security mod, keyless access switched off, keys kept in a faraday pouch, tracker, steering lock used when parked anywhere "dodgy", gravel drive, CCTV cameras around house, limited access via the OBD port.
I was hoping that the insurance cost was beginning to come down. Clearly not. Current:
