Well this isn't great...

I need to have the timing chains and tensioners replaced on my 06 4.2 S/C as at least one primary chain has stretched, it's covered just shy of 260k so I suppose it's expected.

Initially I thought it was just the S/C coupling however on closer inspection the rattle seemed to be affecting only the left back so I removed the cam cover last night and have confirmed that the timing chain's etc. are shot. I've attached a video showing the extent of play.

Sadly I have neither the free time, nor the tools to DIY it; so I dread what sort of bill I'm going to have. 2006 L322 Vogue SE 4.2

Unfortunately at 260K I would say the cost of repair would be well in excess of the fattys worth... Sad Pete

In pure monetary worth, quite possibly.

However, in every other regard it's been pretty faultless and the cost of selling it and replacing with another (pre-tax hike) 4.2 S/C would be greater than the cost of just repairing the devil I know. 2006 L322 Vogue SE 4.2

I’m with floopy on maintenance economics
A properly sorted L322 is worth more than book value
And with an 06 reg….depreciation doesn’t come into the economics
The economics are annual servicing/ fuel / maintenance / VED items to drive an 06 like a newer car costing 10s of thousands
