Beginners questions - steps and vents

Hi all, couple of 'beginner' questions for you experts out there.
Car is a late 2013 4.4sdv8 autobiography (UK based).

Firstly, I want to clean the automatic side steps as they are filthy! How do I keep them in the out position to jet wash them? If I unlock the doors, they come out but then go back in again (as I guess they are meant to do) but I want to keep them out to get them clean.

Secondly, there are air vents in the roof lining above the rear doors but the wheel to turn them on or off hardly moves. Both seem to be the same. I don't want to force the wheel for fear of braking it, is there something I'm doing wrong or a common fix for this?

Thanks all!

The steps should stay out for as long as the door is open - so I guess you just keep the opposite side door open when cleaning ?

Alternatively, this is what the manual say about the steps (I've not tried it)

It's a separate manual due to the somewhat little known fact that deployable steps are a dealer fit option - even if you spec the new car with them they are not fitted at the factory.

The manual doesn't say much -

Though now I've taken a photo of the whole thing rather than just find a snippet from my gallery, I realise that Roof Access may be a better option Embarassed

That's brilliant information on the steps - thank you. I wondered why I couldn't find anything in the owners manual!

Any information on the rear vents anyone?

I think the roof vents you're referring to are not particularly common, if they look like these -

Maybe worth a separate thread with a specific title and a photo ?
